Unknown Windsor Carrera Sport
Hello all,
Just picked this up today but cannot find any info on this bike; windsor carrera sport
I have owned one many years ago and only seen it in blue (in person up here in Canada).
Does anybody know the year on this bike?
Any info would be helpful. BTW I have gone onto vintage sites but it doesn’t have this one.
It’s very close to the other Sport models but some differences. Probably older than what’s on the web.
I know its not worth much but that isn’t the point.

Take the question to Classic & Vintage for best results.
Your Windsor is a made in Mexico by Acer-Mex (sp?).
Looks a lower model.

That's a great color. To date the bike, you might look for component date codes, like on the stem.
That bottle cage would be highly coveted over in C&V.
After a full overhaul, new consumables, and some select "upgrades" (like a cotterless crankset and Suntour derailleurs), it might turn out to be a really nice bike.

Interesting old bike. Is it heavy like my Schwinn Varsity? My Varsity was a very sweet riding bike IMO. Just that dragging all that weight on long rides wore me out when I move from a flatter area of the state to an area that is more rolling terrain.
This is interesting but not many clues.....

If you been lurking here since 2011, you should know that the C&V sub-forum has people there that know old bikes every which way that they can be known. And some of them never come to this sub-forum.

Not a model I ever saw in Greater LA: those Carrera Sports always had chrome-plated lugs (same "fancy style that was sort of an homage to Nervex Pro) and fork crown, but not with a cottered crank: the cotterless "Maxi style" crankset was a selling point. I convinced my Brother-in-law to buy one but was disappointed that it weighted more than the glitzy appearance had "promised". But he was happy with the bike and rode it often until some thief grabbed it out of their garage along with my sister's Gitane.

Thanks everyone for your comments.
I have been looking for Sugino cranks, yes I admit it, I'm not a fan of cottered cranks but my other side of my brain likes to keep it original.
Right now I'm trying to get some projects-for-sale done, then I'll get to this beauty.
I have seen two other bikes like this for sale in the same setup.
Oddly enough, I found a longer version of the same bars a month ago. I'll check the date on it. I get the feeling it's at max., 1972. Glad they upgraded to Sugino.
Weight-wise, in my collection, I had a large yellow Schwinn Varsity which had Schwinn stem shifters which I affectionately called 'Big bird'.
It may be lighter due to the smaller size but maybe big-box-store equivalent but I feel it is a better quality.
Cheers

I did check the C&V page but after reading the description, I interpreted that this was not the best page.
Thanks all anyways.

------
looks to be more the Carrera model (base) rather than the Carrera Sport
---
two frame oddities to be aware of -
while steerer and headset are of BSC dimension steerer I.D. and stem O.D. are the .833 size
while bottom bracket thread is Italian shell width is 68mm
----
date appears closer to '71 than '76
final year for the cycle's Sansin Matsumoto hubs with the small round holes in the flanges was ~1972
----
same cycle also sold badged as Carabela

1971 is what I thought it was. Maybe an error in the decal department due to it stating ‘Sport’ on the frame. Thanks everyone!

That bottle cage is an ALE (or a copy) and it is very nice. I found one a few years ago, but made the mistake of mounting it on one of mrs non-fixie's bikes. I am not getting it back.

AL-E (Allara) bottles & cages be me favourites
not only are the cage designs great - my fave are the ones with the roller
but the mounting clamps are HINGED; no bending required
