Saved trek 1100
i just saved a trek 1100 from the trash. Shifts great and is in good condition needs new tires. Can anyone tell me anything about it? Is it a decent bike? Worth anything? Should I save it and add it too the collection? C’mon let’s hear all about it

Welcome! Round tube aluminum Treks made with Easton or Alcoa tubing (like your 1100) are nice rides. When Trek switched to Alpha Aluminum tubing in the late 90's - with the triangular section hydroformed downtube - I thought that ride quality suffered, got quite a bit stiffer and less forgiving. If you get it up and running, take it for a ride and let us know what you think.
As far as value, later models with brifters command more, earlier models with downtube shifters less. In my market, completely refurb'd with all needed wear items replaced, ~$200 with DT shifters, $250 and up for brifters.

Brifters? Downtube shifters
Hey thanks for the info. I’m not exactly knowledgeable on the terminology surrounding road bikes. I know how to fix them for the most part and love riding, but still have a lot to learn. could you enlighten me on brifters? I think downtube is when they aren’t on the handlebars? If so this 1100 has that. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen them way down there.

I picked up this same bike at a pawn shop for $100 this summer. Continental tires held air and continue to, and the 25c tires roll like they are on rails. Almost feels like my 1985 Steel Trek 470, in a good way. I planned to flip mine, but am really enjoying riding it, so mine will stick around for at least a while.

Nice, can’t wait to get it cleaned up and get some new treads for it. Can’t beleive it was just sitting in a pile of garbage

A pic is worth a thousand words. Here's an 1100 I sold earlier this year. This one has downtube shifters. Brifters are the combination brake/shift levers on the handlebars.

Lots of them.
Weight, cost, simplicity of maintenance, cable routing, clean look, and you can easily trim the front derailleur position, which is very important on a triple chainring, those are very difficult to set up so that they don't rub in certain gear combos.

Here is a 1200 I had. I road it for 2 years. A bit more of a compact frame.Very comfortable bike. Not that big of a fan of the matrix rims. I sold it for $225, and it needed nothing. Woman bought it for here teenage son.
