Anyone like old frames with new parts?

Just got finished building this up. Bought a 57cm frame off ebay, had Clements stickers on it but the seller wasn't sure who made it. Bike had gipiemme dropouts but no marking in terms of tubing etc. Did some research and seems clements bought Simoncini bikes and rebranded them to sell. Anyway, got the bike frame stripped and powder coated in blue and found some appropriate decals for the frame. Rest of the parts came from eBay. Weighs in at just over 9kg so not bad for a steel frame. Not sure if this is the place for a post like this but wanted to share. Now I just need some good weather to ride it.

There is a whole thread devoted to classic frames with modern groups.

No need to delete, just wind it up in the other.

The only "rule" on BF is post pictures of your bike in as many different threads as you like.

So post away.

Cool bike and nice job.

There’s one rule - do what thou wilt, except thou shalt not grind/hack anything off of a double butted frame, nor re-space a double butted frame more than 10mm.

Btw - many of us love modifying bikes, and combining modern components with classic frames.

Mas o menos.

I've removed cantilever posts and replaced with centerpull ones. Brake bridges get removed and replaced with fender bridges in appropriate spots on my 650b conversions as a rule. Vintage Raleighs have their brake cable stops on the drive side, for "right rear" brakers, moving them to the non-drive side makes for a nicer housing curve when using aero levers, and there's a few other minor stuff I've done.

But hack off a derailleur hanger, I got a big issue with that...and don't put decals on a frame that are at best misleading, at worst an out and out lie.

My impression was you’re mostly doing that with relatively common production frames, but it’s not something I’ve really followed either. Not something I’m fond of, but if it makes people happy, and they like the bike more, well...it’s not my bike.

I do think brazed on center pulls are a great system, and it’s a shame more builders didn’t go that route. There was a marastoni with brazed on universals that made
my jaw drop.

True that, I'll rework production frames, but I've turned down one or two that just didn't feel "right" to mess with. Even production frames in really good shape aren't in my wheelhouse. Ratty looking, but good bones frames are just what I'm looking for. That, and "three legged dogs", something damaged that an be readily fixed, why not give it a new life?

It's a thing, it's a niche, it's what I like to do. It all starts with the way you like to ride, the bike should work with that. I like to think we've got a big tent here in BF C&V.

If it makes a bike more fun, and it’s not one of the VERY FEW bikes that truly warrants preservation, do your thing. Plenty of frame builders have modified bikes over the years to make them more enjoyable for their riders...Weigle Raleighs are pretty dang cool.

i was really thinking more about drew than I was purposeful modifications.

So...120mm-->130mm is OK, but NOT -->135mm???

I'm generally freaked taking a 126mm --> 130mm on a lugged steel frame, even though the rational side of me knows this is a good deal all around if you like modern drivetrains.

Depending on the frame, I wouldn’t go 120 - 130.

I've done 120-130 on every day of the week, and twice one Sunday.

Here's 120 to 135mm on one bike of mine:

1973 Raleigh Gran(d) Sport(s) with Sturmey-Archer 5 speed IGH

BTW, learned how to cold set rear triangles from Ed Litton BITD.

Simoncini? With modern parts? Whaaaat? Yours is a beauty.

Barrettscv definitely has one.

I used to. Bought the frame from @cudak888. Did the same as OP.
It now belongs to a man named Matt...….wait for it....Simoncini.
