Frontline - In the Age of AI

I saw this episode of Frontline on PBS last night about AI in general. Worth a watch if you have the time.

"FRONTLINE investigates the promise and perils of artificial intelligence, from fears about work and privacy to rivalry between the U.S. and China. The documentary traces a new industrial revolution that will reshape and disrupt our lives, our jobs and our world, and allow the emergence of the surveillance society."

Just something noticed about some of Frontline lately.

Sounding partisan in the least doesn't lean towards keeping any appearance of objectivity but I guess that's the contemporary approach.

Not that journalism were ever really not partisan but more measured just might keep a larger audience.

I've heard that and witnessed it depending on the topic covered. I don't get to watch the show often, but the AI show stood out to me. Probably because I'm outside the industry and not up to speed with it all. I'm can be quite the Luddite in many situations.

The subject freaks me out I remember the old rotary phones and taking a wrench to the tv antenna pipe to turn it so you could get the channel that had on the football game. I’m adapting but is is still creepy.

They don't talk about this much, but the industry is hard at work on another project called "artificial stupidity." Some of the more incoherent people in this forum are actually chat bots, training for customer support jobs.

Interesting. This author brings up the idea that the internet could soon be without humans.

I went back to antenna TV in January 2017. Luckily, the transmitters I aim my antenna at are all in one patch of land about 20+ miles south of me. No turning of the "pipe" needed here.

Still got the 'net here, though. Obviously.

BTW, the PBS channel I watched Frontline on is an HD channel and it looks fantastic on my old HD TV with Mohu attic antenna.

Looks like modeling for stock photos and marketing is going to take an employment hit, too.

Perhaps the most frightening aspect is how AI suddenly makes leaps that humans failed consider.
