Gravited to the Upper Crust of Biking and now clueless :-(
Hello all,
I gotten a bike that's about two years old and I haven't got the foggiest what these bosses are for.

It is at the rear end of the left chain stay.
Also this mount fits nice on the center of my handlebar stem and the seller told me it came with the bike and is suppose to be a fairly univerisal mount. Any ideas?

Thanks for any info you might have and I appreciate all replies.

The mount is a headlight mount, maybe a Lezyne mount. Forget "universal." I have had half a dozen headlights and none of them share mounts.
No clue what's under the cover.

The kickstand mount Trek seems to be using nowadays. One shop had kickstands on most Treks on display

Nothing stops you from using it for whatever you want. A bit of scrap metal, a drill and a file, add some creativity and you have the sweetest trailer hitch ever seen.

Granted those two bolts might not be able to handle a trailer, but I was thinking of a light weight trailer. Maybe weight limit of 50 lbs? You would think in this day and age designers are putting out a better trailer hitch system. The stuff out there looks like it hasn't improved in 20 years.

The rear double bosses are for a kickstand. No idea what the other on the handlebar is. I have a crossrip elite, also, same frame color and year, no handlebar mount.

Have you had any problems with the bottom bracket? I've had mine coming loose on me. This last time I really torqued down on tightening it. Hopefully that does the trick.

Trek Crossrip Elite=reaching the upper crust? Thanks. My cat is declining due to lymphoma and I needed a good laugh.

It's fine - I have the same one on my Trek Crossrip and it's pretty robust. I even started riding with the stand down by mistake once and scraped it round a corner - no damage.

A handful of people I ride with use those mounts to attach a kickstand. And others use an adapter which attaches to the stays since they dont have those mounts.
Rear wheel kickstands are apparently becoming purposefully cool.
