another Winnipegger here. Really enjoying the ever expanding trail system. Summer rides in the city are usually on home made delta trikes with e assist.

How are the mosquitos on all those summer rides? I read Winnipeg is pretty bad for those blood suckers.

Let's put it this way; you know you're not in Kansas anymore when swarms attempt to latch onto then lift you in unison off your bike and fly you back to their lair.

Nice try, the mosquitos have been bad in years past but the last 3 or 4 have been pretty good. Although I do have a screened in gazebo for the few bad days.

prairiepedaler Ha! If only you could get them to somehow co-odinate their swarming as go in to a headwind, they might even help you achieve that PB you're chasing

Hi Jeep, that is correct about the Moskies. The tent caterpillar situation last year made up for it. All part of the insect cycle I reckon. The mosquitoes will be back soon enough. I've lived in this City most of my life and seen it change. I'm working towards leaving in the future. I'd do it now if I could. Hard to leave everything you know behind but many millions have made that choice all over the World.

Been a good spring so far. Managed a bit under 200 km's of riding so far. One of my rides is a 2wd Delta trike I just finished up this spring. It has pedal power to the left rear wheel and a geared hub motor to the right rear wheel. So far it's working quite well.

Hello there Ray, I guess you are talking about the snow right now? We've had quite a bit thus far. Probably not enough to be concerned about for flooding come spring. It wasn't really a wet Autumn and the ground was dry. Should wick up the melt.

Hey from Charleswood! I'm not looking forward to the mosquito situation this year (or the potential flooding) once the snow dumps we've had in the past month melt...

All I know is I,m really looking forward to this darn snow being gone and getting out for a ride again. I have been riding my fatbike, just last week we went from Labierre park to Lasalle along the river. That was a nice ride.

We missed the rain and snow, the weather alert has ended. I've been seeing a few bikes on the streets in Transcona the last few days. Even managed to get about 25 km's on my fatbike.

Nice, yeah we missed most of the precipitation! I wish we had more trails, or any trails, to ride in or near transcona. Just the paved tcona trail and bio reserve. If you know of any good places northernjeep, please share.

It's mostly paved but riding the Transcona trail across Plessis and then staying to the north side ie not crossing to head up to Regent leads to Chief Peguis. It's mostly MUPS with a bit of residential till you cross Grassie Blvd. From there you can ride all the way to Kildonan Park. Or by turning north on the Gateway road trail you can reach Bunn's Creek but thats prob not open just yet. Alternatively continuing north on the Gateway trail takes you to the town of Birds Hill. That can lead to Garvin ave in the town which takes you to the paved trail along the floodway.

The path to get from the Transcona trail to reach Chief Peguis is a mix of MUPS, some possible gravel and a few residential streets. If you would like I could show you, thats prob less confusing then reading my descriptions LOL. I also know of a couple good (read safe) routes to reach the forks and Assiniboine park also the Yellow Ribbon trail out by the airport and back along Sturgeon Creek. Winnipeg is slowly getting some good trails, being retired and exploring them has been and continues to be good fun.

Thanks for that Northernjeep! It would be nice to have some sort of off road trails in our neck of the woods. I live just off plessis near the sobeys and don't often get a chance to drive somewhere with my bike to ride. I am still a working age daddy of a 5 year old so time is not in abundance. lol

Also trying to get rid of 2 older bikes and a whole wack of "vintage" parts from the late 90s-2000s. Don't even know where to start with that since some are definitely worth something and sought after. But again, time is my enemy. I guess they'll just be vintager if they sit longer. Haha.

One of the nicer off road trail rides can be found at Birds Hill Park. Thats where some friends and I ride our fat bikes in winter. The snow is going fast so its a bit too deep and soft but should be good in a couple weeks.

Worth

Anybody know a good place to figure out what my bike is worth? It’s a 10yr old Miele Veneto - 24spd but I don’t know much else about it.

Hi there Adam, try the C&V category for information on your potential flip

We were supposed to receive two feet of snow here which didn't happen and instead it bypassed us. Others did receive waist high amounts. Hopefully on Farmers fields (they said they needed it). In terms of going for a ride in this... hmmm.
