Shimano Deore SL-M510 9x3
I have Cannondale Badboy 2001 and need to replace shifters. The are Shimano Deore Rapidfire SL-M510 if I am not mistaken. They are 9 x 3.
Seems Shimano do not make anything 9 x 3, so what are my alternatives? I have 2005 BadBoy Ultra with 9 x 3 shifting as well and shifters are SRAM X7. I couldn't find X7, but found X5.
So basically if there any info on comparability of older components. Thanks in advance.

If the current shifters aren't working properly, try spraying some wd40 inside them, the grease in shifters can harden and stop them working properly

Should that not work, I believe Microshift makes compatible shifters.

You do have several 3x9 choices in Shimano.

You might try looking also for Shimano Alivio M4000 or Deore M590 which are both 3x9 systems - some places seem to still carry them.
But if your problem is the thumb lever moving without doing anything sometimes or most of the time, it can almost certainly be remedied by the aforementioned WD40 treatment, I have done it myself a few times, and it works well.

All Shimano road and MTB components are compatible as long as you do not exceed rear derailleur tooth capacity for cassette size. Sora components are 9 speed and will work for you. If you can find them.

Incorrect. 10,11,12 are all not cross compatible road and mountain and supposedly Tiagra 4700 10 speed is only compatible with itself but may work with 11 speed derailleurs and vice versa as it is supposedly using the 11 speed cable pull. Also there are some instances of non compatibility before that but generally 9 speed Shimano is cross compatible road and mountain as long as you don't exceed the gearing as you said.

Thank you everybody for your recommendations. I realize that there are 9x3 options in new units, but based on their ##s, they are lower than 510 that I want to replace/upgrade. Correct me if I am wrong (lower than SL-M510). All 590 that I found were used. and New 3100 are not in stock in 9s.
I found new (take offs) 660 on e-bay for $60. They do not have shift indicators as my current 510, but it is OK with me, because I hardly look at an indicators.
