Thank very much T-Mar; spot on like always.

The archive image posted by davei does indeed appear to show the same spoke portector. I believe this image originates with the Sterba museum/collection.

Randy's dark red bike shows a different pattern but it is a good five years later than davei's example.

Speaking of Czech bikes ...

I saw this one today at lunch, the chain was very rusty but the bike didn't appear abandoned. I couldn't make out the brand then but the lugs look similar. I kind of liked the stem, looking at it now, it seems to be a Favorit.

I looks abandoned to me; if only for a month or two. I don't see how that rusty red chain has been ridden recently

Could be, but I'd expect parts missing ... maybe it's too rusty and old for parts thieves.

@specialmonkey, check the tires to see if it's been ridden.

It looks to me like it got parked after a serious case of chain suck. The top run of the chain certainly isn't aligned with the top of the chainrings, yet it hasn't fallen off the chainrings.

Back in the 70's we sold Favorit bike sourced from a distributor located in Montreal who also sold mopeds/scooters/motorcycles. There was a definitely a full-Campagnolo NR bike (except for brakes). The complete bike cost less than buying the Campagnolo components from the distributors of the day, so we purchased a few of them and stripped the components to be fitted to other bikes. One of the stripped frames was then used as the basis for one of my trike conversions. They were functionally competent bikes but the workmanship was definitely nothing special.

Chain appears to be depressed by the yoke of the u-lock resting upon it.

I walked by again yesterday on the way back from lunch and the tires were maybe 1/8th to 1/4 full ... so maybe recently abandoned. It's in pretty nice shape and would probably clean up fine.

There's also a pretty nice abandoned Opaque Blue Schwinn Sports Tourer in front of Five Guys on Bleecker near 7th Ave.

Hello Ardit and welcome to the forum.

Favorit produced several models.

Readers would be able to advise you if you could post some images of the bicycle.

Favorit is a fascinating brand. And being behind the iron curtain adds to the mystique. Favorit seems to have started to copy other brands with the power of politics, just as Zeus with Franco.

Really cute Campagnolo copies, with text upside down

In Arregui's catalogue Nr. 102 there is a photo of El Generalissimo himself reviewing the Arregui exhibit at a trade show.

My favorit

Hello,
I got my favorit a couple of days ago. It had all of its parts except the saddle, so I put a Brooks on it. I'd like to find a favorit saddle for it.

Have just started tearing down my 1973 Rapido Favorit. Its been hanging in the rafters of a wood working shop for 40 years. Very difficult disassembly.

For now I'm going to leave it set up as the original owner had it. This is what it looked like after a scrub when I picked it up last summer. I have lots of drop bar bikes so I'll leave the alloy upright bars on it. I have some NOS Bluemels fenders in emerald green I may install. The bike was a victim of poor maintenance but the saddle survived great after a clean and treatment.
