Waiting at bottom of hill
Yesterday on my way to work I waited at the bottom of the ~3 minute climb because I wanted a rabbit to chase. Just no fun at all otherwise and I wasn’t in a hurry. Sure enough someone showed up and we raced up the hill, but later I felt kind of obnoxious for waiting for him and then passing.

Wait longer so you cannot catch him. even if you bust your lungs trying. Then try. Great workout and yo won't offend anyone. And if you do catch him, thank him in your blown state for being a superb rabbit.

I would feel bad for the person who sat and waited for any random person to show up so he could race them up a hill. I wouldn't say anything because someone who needs to do that isn't someone who would take commentary well in the moment.
I also feel I would laugh with my wife about it when I came home and told her what happened.
Then I wouldn't ever think about it again.

...But did the highfalutin roadie accuse you of having a motor when you passed him & ran him ragged in your draft? (I was so accused, today.)

There is always someone faster & it's not always who you think. It could be some yahoo on a opafiets taking a poser with a self-validation complex to task.
Racing people who aren't racing you says a lot about you.
Keepin' it real, Larry.

It would be much easier (and a more efficient use of time?) if you simply climb/ride against your previous best times on a given course.
No one to wait for.

It would have been more funny if the guy he was chasing (the "rabbit") had stopped halfway up the hill and turned into a driveway, or something. Race over.

The post would have been more entertaining if the rabbit then started playing possum, then, after being passed, became a greyhound, then passed LS, again.

You need to up your game Larry. Make a Strava segment out of this hill. Then after you repeatedly rest up at the bottom and over take a few riders a day, not only will you become the local legend, you may get a KOM.
