Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I may be able to come down for that; gotta be careful though, all these rides away from home and Mr. Road will be racking up some major leverage

If anyone is in town earlier and wants to travel up the road about 40 minutes further, I'll be happy to take a group out of the Hershey area as well - whatever length people want, whatever time of day works. A little hillier than Lancaster, but we can treat it as a good stretch of the legs.

I plan on rolling into Lancaster between 1 and 2pm on Saturday. Gotta meet up with Dex about the room and then I'd be up for a short ride (like 10 or 15 miles) before dinner. I'm bringing my digital camera as well for pictures throughout the ride.

Dex...let's catch up through PM in the next day or two. Gotta go over a few quick things.

To everyone else...see you soon! WooooWhooo!

I'm up for 10-15 slow miles Saturday... I am planning to be there right at 3:00 to check in.

And, I will have my digital camera as well... I should be able to get some nice shots of the backs of the rest of you.

Yep, that was me. I'll have copies of the map, and cue sheet made up for anyone who wants to join in. We probably won't even need them, but hey, they are fun to make. With a short ride like this, we should still have plenty of time for dinner plans, and such.

Cool beans. I think we can hammer out that 15 miles in around 40 minutes, give or take a few.

Sorry to say, but you have to remove my name from the list. I was only ever a "maybe" anyway. It turns out I would have to have gone alone so it wouldn't have been the fun trip I had envisioned (well, a BF meeting would have helped but...). In the end my riding friends and I will be doing the "Ramapo Rally" locally that day. Maybe next year...

I like the 78 degree part... When I saw the news here in NE PA they did mention potential morning showers here on Sunday.

Let's hope the situation becomes ideal by this weekend.

The forecast from NOAA as of this morning:

Saturday: Partly cloudy, with a high near 82.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 63.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82.

Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 60.

I can live with this! If it rains, we'll take shelter in a Covered Bridge

I was going to take off my fenders, to help me out a very little bit (less wind resistance and less weight could help me finish the 100K 30 seconds sooner)... now I may keep them on, just in case.

Hell, my second century ever last year was driving rain and 20mph+ winds.

Of course I got some raceblades but they don't work on my bike. Anybody want them?

Must have been the Seagull Century last year. Nothing like being completely soaked within the first 5mins. Luckily it wasn't very cold out... just WET. That was my first century ever and I hooked up with a group from Hartford County (Velos) and I finished it in 5hrs. 25mins. ride time. I sure hope we don't have another day like that one.

Your anti-rain dance will have to counteract all the rain dances being done by the local farmers. We haven't had rain in almost three weeks, which is fine with me since my nice brown lawn doesn't need mowing.
As of the noon news today the forecast was for a chance of rain from noon on Sat till early Sun afternoon. That being said last night one of the local weathermen said that all he could promise was that the forecast would chance between now and the weekend. I'm hoping for lots of rain on Sat and none on Sunday.

riding in the rain just makes that after-ride shower and dry clothes all the more rewarding

Damn dude, I heard about your accident in Foo. Sorry to hear you lost to an SUV. Heal up soon and I hope that idiot SUV driver who was in such a fecking hurry gets run over by an 18 wheeler who's also in a big rush. And that pic of your bike...took a while just to figure out what bits were what. Get better soon!

Anyone have a copy of the Cue sheet yet?

Anyhow, good news... I won't have to rush off early in the morning so I can meet up with you guys again. I'm bringing two of my brothers with me.

Are we all meeting at the same place? Also, what time are we planning to begin riding? I'm hoping by 9 A.M.

The latest. . .

Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8am. Partly cloudy, with a high near 83. Calm wind becoming south between 6 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Saturday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 65. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Sunday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 61.

Sounds a little better to me than 95 degrees!

30% chance isn't bad. We'll probably stay dry if that forecast holds out.

The weather is sounding good, and now my greatest fear is one step closer. I finally got my clipless pedals (Candy C's) installed, and spent about 1/2 hour on the trainer last night. I am doing OK at unclipping, it is a little easier than I thought it would be. However, the clipping in needs some work. I do like the solid feel of pedalling with the clipless (at least on the trainer).

I hope to get off of work tonight in time to do my first outside ride on them...

I don't mind falling (well, I do, but I know it is part of cycling) What I do fear is that with my luck, I will have a clipless tip-over while someone has their camera out and ready.
