Hydraulic disc brakes
The fluid used in these systems is oil based, it dissolves seals, why is my caliper stuck or leaking? If you have that system drain the oil, flush with denatured alcohol and replace with silicone car brake fluid. It is immune to temp, lower temps gum up oil based fluids, silicone does not.
Mineral oil really!
Reason i post this, had a 4X4, treated it rough, every 3/4 years had to rebuild the brake calipers , swapped in silicone and 6 years later sold it, 2 years after that no brake issues!

If you are talking about Shimano Hydraulic brakes with mineral oil, they are the best. Why mess with it. It's not a car.

On yer bike
Yeah, I think I'll just stick with what the manufacturer recommends. Can't say I've ever had any issues running mineral oil brakes for thousands upon thousands of miles. Besides, if Shimano and Magura are going to split hairs over which special formula of mineral oil is okay to use in their respective brakes, I'm sure not going to risk some crazy DOT 5 swap.

Your right, the system has to be cleaned with denatured alcohol first to remove all traces of mineral oil. you cannot even mix regular car brake fluid with car silicone brake fluid.

fluid braking is fluid braking regardless of car, truck, airplane or Apollo lander, what fluid you use depends on your temp and track. i personally would never use a fluid for braking, i would spring a leak after about 30 secs with the crap i go through, ungroomed trails
