Headed towards my 60th!
I'm excited about 2020--I turn 60. My fitness is better that ever and I'm knocking off PRs back from 2013-2016! What did I change over the last couple years? I cut my sugar intake, added a long Zone 2 ride to my week, and push harder on my HIIT days. Wishing all of you increased fitness and health as we ride forward into a new decade!

Well, I'm glad you are feeling good, but what are "PRs", "zone 2 rides", and "HIIT days"?

Yeah -- both my wife and I turn 70 this summer. She takes ballet lessons 3 or 4 times per week, and I have my walking, cycling, and workouts at the local YMCA. Life is good. I still work full time by choice, but I need to step up my cycling mileage, particularly hill work.

PRs are Personal Records--in this case, timed ride segments on Strava or other fitness apps; Zone 2 rides are lower intensity rides on a heart rate scale of 1-5, 5 being the highest; HIIT is High Intensity Interval Training.

I'll be 60 next month(Feb). Some mornings I feel it especially walking up/down the stairs until the knees warm up lol.
I also cut my sugar in-take (eg black coffee) and ride my stationary bike almost every evening during the long cold Canadian winters.
One huge change was getting the wife to stop bringing home bags of chips. Late evening snacking on salty chips is/was my weakness.....

One benefit--I get to move up to the next race age category--60+. I'll be the young guy. However, there are some 65+ guys in there who absolutely hammer.

Congrats All!
You can officially add me to the six-decade list in about 10 months time. Seeing far more members closer to my age in my weekly Yin yoga class than ever before. I have to admit that it’s really helped me over the years to reduce stress and maintain flexibility by targeting connective tissues and joints. Namaste.

I find my self in the same boat... quickly approaching 60. i have done some of these things, but sugar is my crack cocaine! Seriously, i do have one question - does anyone else have a hard time keeping it to zone 2 for a long period of time... I tend to ride in zone 3, edging into zone 4 for hills. (power based, 6 one system).
As for Zone 2, I do a dedicated road ride for it on flat or rolling ground (no hills) for 2-3 hours, not trying to mix it in as part of general ride. I don't worry about speed or mileage, just the time. I use a Garmin 520 Plus to keep tabs on my HR range. Since I'm on flattish road or dirt, this helps me from going no higher than a little into Zone 3 now and then. Zone 2 is tough because the tendency is to go harder. I find that doing it after a hard day before it helps keep me from going too high because I just can't.

Good job. I will be 59 this year and am just starting training for my first triathlon - mostly because I hate running ang this gives me a reason to run.
Keep up the good work.

I wish I were headed toward my 60th birthday. Preferably with about 20 years to prepare.
