So why should I go to that link for a read over all the other places I can read about bicycling history?
Come on dude, if your are going to link something you need to give a sales pitch whether its what interested you or a synopsis of what I'll find there that will be of interest.
Otherwise I'll wait till I stumble on it myself.

-cobblestone roads were paved because of the bicycle
- bicycles gave women freedom of movement
- the auto industry made illegal what people have naturally been doing for thousands of years: jaywalk
- cars have killed people for a hundred years now but it's the bicycle that is dangerous because they are hit by cars.
What's missing in the article is the auto industry's push for bicycle helmets to further give the bicycle the impression that it's dangerous. Never mind that cars are equipped with seat belts, airbags, bumpers and occupants still get whiplash, back and head injuries.

Pretend I and others have no idea about the name Jill Lepore. What's at the end of that link that will make me want to use some of my time to go there? What particularly peaked your interest about that article. Or what got you so fired up about it that you chose to feel everyone at BF needs to know?
Is it fair for us to go there and not know your views or perceptions of why it's worth our time?
Daniel4 and even TiHabanero gave a better introduction to the links destination. IMO, you should have been somewhere between their write ups on it. Pro or con.

My first exposure to Jill Lepore was her podcast, The Last Archive. Pretty good, IMHO; I listened through both seasons of it.

BikesnobNYC had a post the other day about how the New Yorker has had a bit of a change of heart about cyclists. The article in his first post is very good.
