Can you help me ID this ladies bike please?

Someone wanted disposal of it but I thought I would take it and clean her up. The only id on the bike is CAPRI - it has a nice metallic red / orange paintwork - and 10 gears by Simplex.

I would be good to know if it's worth spending money on getting this bike sorted or not.

See pic ...

You need a minimum number of posts in order to add a picture (10?) so there is no picture in your post.

Your bike might be as old as 50 years. Simplex is a French made derailleur commonly used on French made bikes. Like most French brands they have been gone for a very long time. The 2X5, 10 speed system also dates it back to the 70s or early 1980s when they started to offer 12 speed bikes and better. Sometimes you can glean a production date on hubs and on the inside of the crank arm. That would give you a close approximation of the production date.

I recommend that you ask the moderators to move this thread to the Classic and Vintage sub-group. You may be able to list clues there that will allow the experts to solve this mystery.

You should post this bike in the Classic & Vintage area in order to maximize results. Having said that, I'll give you my $.02 on it. The bike is a low-end model as evidenced by the construction of the frame and the components. That doesn't mean it is a bad bike, just that it will suffer from being heavier than modern counterparts. For casual rides or short trips to the store, this bike will be fine.

It has steel wheels which will compromise stopping power, especially in wet conditions. Suggest the brake pads be replaced with modern ones designed to enhance all-weather braking such as Kool Stop brand. The cottered crank is fine, albeit heavy and may be more difficult to service if you don't own a cotter-press.

The frame itself is likely Hi-Tensile, straight gauge, very durable although heavy. The crimped ends of the tubing indicates a lower-end build as does the lack of a derailer hanger.

Still, all said, the paint and the chrome look very nice for an older bike and with maintenance it would be a decent "fun" bike. Nothing I'd want to ride a century on.

Thanks - there's next to nothing on the Internet about this bike so I wonder:

Is CAPRI the make or model?
Where was this bike made?
How old is this bike?

I'm drawing a blank with Google. Google has only got me this far: https://norwichcharitybikeauction.blo...ring-bike.html

A lot of "house brand" 10 speed mixte frames like this out there from the 1970s-80s so it could be from pretty much anywhere IMO.

It's in good shape, so would make a fine around-town bike. It has little monetary value, so not worth spending much on.
Maybe fresh brake pads for better stopping. Steel rims aren't great for braking, so good pads will help.
