Raleigh Folding Bike - missing headset bolt or?
Arrgh.. can't post a pic until my 10 post, but here's my question
just bought this Raleigh folding bike and I think it's missing the headset bolt or whatever it's called. It rides and handles fine as is, but I'm thinking the handle bars might come off without that bolt. Advice please. Thanks.. Will

I was just riding my Twenty this morning and there is no tradition stem bolt. There is clamp like a seat tube clamp that holds it in place. You can see what it looks like in 3speedslow's picture. Roger

sorry guys.. had to wait 24 hours before I could continue posting another message
here's a pic of what I'm referring to.. is it missing a bolt at that opening? I'm thinking yes even though the bike does ride well as is.

So what you have there is ahead type stem. Raleigh original was a quill stem. Quill stem had a long bolt with a wedge nut that went to the steering tube. I am not sure what you have now. The picture does not show lower connection. If the steering works you only need a cap, star nut and bolt. Take another picture showing the head tube connection with the existing stem riser.

I was thinking that this was an olf Raleigh 20. lt is not one that I'm familiar with. Does the steering work now?

yes works fine, maybe then it's just a cap/cover that it needs?

l am not sure how your wedge nut is tighened but yeah cap with bolt and star nut should do it. I think some one added a stem riser and an ahead stem at some point.

Shine a light down the tube and see if there's a spot for an allen wrench. That might be how it's adjusted. Otherwise, just put a cap on it and enjoy the bike,... I know I would. She's a beauty!!!
