MTB bars, Right or Left?

The nice MB-1 I got last summer came with some pretty cool Specialized bars and matching stem.

Cool as they are, they don't belong on the MB-1.

They will be replaced by some version of these.

Integrated lever/shifter or separated?

Is there a noticeable difference in operation/ergonomics? They seem to put the the shifters in different positions/ longer reach? I like the look of the integrated shifters.

Integrated shifters take up less space on the bar - one clamp vs two with the brake lever clamp. So the bar you're using may influence this somewhat.

The look is cleaner with integrated, but if you have room on the bar and like to position the shifters in a slightly different plane or angle than the brake levers, then non-integrated is the way to go.

Someone will appreciate that slingshot stem and aluminum bars from an 83 (or so) Stumpjumper (shifters and brake levers are stumpy too).

Probably is some difference in the reach/ergo, may be different for each of us.

I won't ride this a lot so not big concern, more about the futzing and vibe.

The integrated ones were the first I cleaned up and put together, but as always I also cleaned up the others and now I have both sets ready to go.

Van, I don't know of an integrated brake / shifter setup that will do friction shifting, and I think that this bike is a non indexed, right ?

Well the slingshots were mostly gone by 94 and I would normally go with bullmoose but they are a bit too vintage for the MB-1 so it will get the unbranded slingshot setup.

I also normally go with Magura levers but have no more spares so the Dia Compe's and SunTour's will have to do, glad I have them.

An early Stumpy will get the Specialized stem and bars unless I go with bullmoose on it as the Big S bar/stem are much later, we'll see.

It will need Mafac Canti's which I am also in need of more, Tomaselli levers would be nice too.....

The second pic with a grip is with them integrated, they're just bolted to the top of lever instead of stand alone. The shifters are both friction/indexing that you can change.

Not a huge fan of the Paul's, they are cool though, paired with the Tomaselli's would be a great juxtaposition.
