My recently acquired 1968 Jack Taylor Super Tourist or why was I born with long legs?

Hey all, despite it being 6cm too small for me, I picked this 1968 Jack Taylor Super Tourist up yesterday. I thought the closest I would ever get to a bike like this is in pictures, but seeing it in the flesh makes you appreciate why they're so desirable. Only the tires are not original and I think I might have a source for the rubber chainstay guard.

Great! It looks like something you could ride around the world on.
You need to put some serious touring miles on it, or polish it up and enjoy looking at it.
58cm is the largest I am comfortable on. 6cm smaller, I wouldn't be too happy.

That is SPECTACULAR!

That bike is in thoroughly adorable condition and should be fantastic trade bait if one shows up in your size.

That double box lining and the mid-century-modern Jack Taylor logos are so alluring-

Congratulations!

thank you for sharing your new arrival. most handsome she be.

they keep those rubber chainstay guards in stock at jitensha bicycle shop on bancroft way in berkeley, california. iirc they are offered in something like six colours. believe them to be a japanese make to replicate the french originals. do not recall the brand name.

Thanks guys, serial number 5832. I have the original rubber guard but it's dry rotted so I'll be getting one of those, thanks!

Hello M A V

This Super Tourist is a real stunner, love the build/finish details & chrome accents. Though it's not your fitting size I imagine it was a pleasure to explore the craftsmanship incorporated into this machine.

I see your listing is near to finish, offered with free shipping: Great Vintage 1968 Jack Taylor Super Tourist Randonneur Bicycle Herse Singer 55 | eBay

The rear derailleur alone commands a significant portion of the starting bid, wishing mine also had the twin cable routing under the bottom bracket.
Them tall frames come available with relative frequency, I'll keep you in mind when the next one shows.

Best in all regards.

Late to a thread makes me irrelevant, but couldn't help looking at the ebay listing. Can't believe only 2 bids and that it went for $1663. Someone got a deal.

Those black Jack's are beautiful.
That rear derailleur is a 1940's-50's type that used a coil spring rather than a parallelogram. By 1968 absolutely no-one was using them anymore, and I would bet that bike is at least 10-15 years older.
