Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

https://www.cyclingweekly.com/news/product-news/sram-etap-vs-di2-which-is-better-211408

Wondering why SRAM Red eTap instead of the Shimano Dura-Ace Di2... but reading a few comparison test the only thing I could find was ease of initial setup for the SRAM over the Shimano due to wireless (SRAM) versus wired Shimano). And around 65-95 grams difference depending on what review I read. Better battery life on Shimano and more customization capabilities.

Was the decision based on looks between the two units?

Anyone can read reviews and it's pretty clear you use Shimano. Some people prefer SRAM...is it that hard to believe?

It was a legit/valid question... I am starting to build a second bike in a few weeks and looking at what components to use. Started to read comparisons on the two systems and shared two of the links that I found on them.

As a newbie, was not aware of SRAM... and when comparing the two, did not find that much of a difference and wanted to validate with the OP if he decided on it based on looks or something else.

And yes, my first build was using Shimano Ultegra... learned a lot from the build. For the second one, researching some more before pulling the trigger on components. Is that hard to believe?

Apologies - Threads that OP start don't get many serious ?'s. FYI - IMO you are asking the wrong person. Look back through other threads by OP

No worries. I have seen a few threads from the OP and understand your comment. This was one of those where I also looked at the price of the two system. The OP did not selected SRAM based on the cost that I could see, as in this case, the Shimano is more expensive.

That is what triggered my question based on the comparison links I had found so far. So it might just come done to personal preference.

Enjoy the rest of the long weekend!!

Just something different to try as all the other bikes are Durace so thought i would give SRAM a try.. Really can not go wrong one way or the other..Right...? Sometimes you just need to mix things up a bit..Good luck on your new build..

I think that I am one of the few that is excited to see this being built up. I like the thread, I like the quality. If you are able to do it, do it. Don't answer questions about money or why, just do it. If it is your hobby, and you can afford to do it, build it, ride it, and enjoy it.
