I rode the Heron today with some mixed gravel and paved roads. I’d planned on about 40 but one of my roads was closed for bridge work so gladly shortened the ride to 30.
Vineyard along Buck Mountain Rd in Albemarle County outside Free Union. Amount of grapes planted here has probably tripled over the past few years. I expect this last empty spot will have grapes too before long.
If you find yourself looking at your bank account, wondering what you could possibly do to get rid of all that money in there, you could build a tower gazebo to gaze over your vineyard. They worked on that for several months.

"Just another ride on the SRT." So why is it such a pleasure after so many trips on this section? Cool, overcast, calm, green, lovely. Took the Världsmästarcykeln out for the trip from East Coventry to Mont Clare, including Tunnel Hill and Lock 60. What a sweet ride today. Photo of the wee worm gear in front of the Phoenixville Foundry event venue. I say "wee" cuz I've seen some really huge gears. I once worked in an 80" mill and one bull gear was bigger than a house.

85km today making sure what worked at the end of the last road season still works at the start of the new. First Sunday of the southern spring this weekend and with it the first road race. Right now I don’t have a good reason not to start it.
By my reckoning this Merlin XL is 21 years old this year and thus a modern classic. Rim brakes, custom steel fork and more importantly no power-assisted shifting nor 36cm handlebars with turned-in Ergopower levers.

That photo brings back a memory from the late 90s. I was driving to work on I-5, and traffic was stopped for several miles. Apparently, a transgender had climbed that powerline towers in your photo(or the next one down). She had a bottle of vodka and was doing shots a blowing flames from her mouth from the top of the tower, bare breasted even(at 8am). As entertaining as it was, I was passed off to be parked on the freeway for a couple of hours.

The Manufrance and I did a 58-mile ride today, to Boothbay, Maine. 66F when I left and 72F when I returned. I had a 5 to 10-mile-per-hour winds all the way, but brought three shirts so the wind was not really a factor. This is my first ride with the Huret Eco r.d. and it will be the permanent derailleur on this bike. It's performance was flawless. It negotiated the triple crank with no problem. Ate a haddock sandwich at a little nook and visited Adams Pond.

Another outstanding day on the SRT from Oaks trailhead. 30 miles with only bio-breaks. The unusual part was seeing a high wheel going the other way. Penny farthing, bone shaker, etc. I’d guess the big wheel was 50 or 52” and it was light blue. IOW it looked new! A quick search brings up Standard Highwheels based in Sweden and they sell a light blue one that looks just the one I saw in the wild. I had no idea they were still being made. The guy riding was in typical colorful road cycling kit and was really booking it. I know better than to try turning around and chasing him down to ask questions. I’m comfortable being too old for that. Anyway, quite a surprise.

Tonight's Trample ride took us to Crestwood Park for a spectacular sunset. My 1965 Schwinn Racer 3-speed got the nod for this ride.

Another ride this morning on the Cane Creek Rails to Trails/Five Mile Creek Greenway at Black Creek Park in Fultondale, AL.

Got to ride the 30 year old Trek today after swapping the handlebar and wheels plus a Brooks. Was on the beach side trails so fat tires necessary. Good to have some temperatures in the teens finally. Roll on warmer weather!

Did what was likely my last overnight bike camping trip of the summer yesterday to today. I was on my Brother Cycle’s Mr. Wooden, which is C&V adjacent (where I am firmly V). Starting pic:
My destination was Erving State Forest in Erving, MA. Yesterday started with a 5-mile ride to Boston’s North Station, then a 90-minute train ride to Fitchburg, MA, and then a 46-mile bike ride to my campsite. It was kind of gravely.
Once I was settled, it was to time to brew up some afternoon coffee:
Today, I brewed up some more coffee, ate some breakfast, packed everything up and hit the road by about 8:30. Some 95 miles later, I was home. The weather was absolutely perfect: bright sun, no real wind, and temps consistently in the high 60s/low 70s. Today’s ride also had about 5K feet of climbing, most of that in the first 60 miles. I’ll sleep well tonight (not in a tent).

My employer suggested that we take a day off for wellness today, so naturally I went for a bike ride. Since @gugie is now getting every day as a wellness day, he joined me for a ride along the Historic Columbia River Highway. It was my first time riding my Mercian Vincitore since repainting it. Goodness all around.
We started at the Lewis and Clark State Recreation site in Troutdale
From there, up the historic highway to the Portland Women's Forum viewpoint.
We continued on to Multnomah Falls, where I failed to take a picture. On the way back, Gugie got a nice long rest waiting for me to drag myself up the road to Crown Point. On the way up, I stopped to take a picture -- not because I was tired and needed to rest, but because the view was so good.
Eventually I made it.
Finally, back down to the parking lot where we started. Forgive the non-drive side picture, but that's the direction Captain Lewis said I should be going.

Interesting that you posted a pic near the endpoint of Capt Lewis’ journey as my pics today are a mile or two from his birthplace, so I guess you could say they’re the beginning of that journey. We’ve had some really, really nice weather lately and I’ve put some non documented miles in this week but today was a leisurely ride out to watch my wife run in the Charlottesville Women’s 4 miler. It is run on Garth Road in western Albemarle County just outside town. Garth Rd is beautiful with horse farms and views of the Blue Ridge but it is dangerous on a bike with a lot of high speed car traffic on a narrow windy road. Today, however, the road was mostly closed for the race, so a prime opportunity to ride safely and cheer on the missus!
That’s a smile, not a grimace - unlike me, she’s a happy runner.
Stopped at UVA on the way home and had some breakfast and enjoyed the cool morning, sunshine and the University Grounds

UVA Memorial to Enslaved Laborers who built most of not all of the original university. Nicely done with names engraved along the wall (in some cases, just an occupation when history didn’t record a name) and the central circle with flowing water over notes of significant events over the history of the university.

Nice weather today about 70 but a tone of traffic so I took a short ride on the back roads and bike trail about 10 miles. Used the the Specialized trainer that's riding pretty good for a bike I got out of the dumpster and have only spent $20 or so on.
