With the cable break on the C40 yesterday causing me not to make it to 300 miles for the week I decided to go back out todays to get in the final miles. Storm clouds all around so I decided to just hop on the Azor and cruise around Eden. Took out one of my DSLR's and a couple of lenses. Light conditions were terrible but I managed to grab some shots. One of my small camera bags fit just fine in the basket on the front of the bike.

It's been an incredibly wet pre-Autumn here in the northeast. The sun finally came out today but the riding was brief. I accompanied Mrs. ascherer on her first ride on roadways in I-don't-know-how-long as she's been bedevilied by a slow recovery from shoulder surgery earlier in the year. This was only her third ride for the season, the prior were on the local rail trail. Short but sweet, we had a beautiful and inspiring ride along the Catskill Escarpment. The north-south roads there are about as level as it gets in this area. No pics on this ride, but I did make sure to show her this spot at the Blue Mountain Reservoir:

A few weeks ago, my son and I spent a few days camping on Orcas Island in Moran state park.
One of the rides we did was the climb up to the summit of Mt. Constitution.
I noticed as we began climbing, a sign on the opened gate for Mt. Constitution Road that stated the road was closed nightly at dusk and that got me to thinking..
I bet Mt. Constitution would make a great full moon ride!
The road is closed at dusk each night just past the hiker/biker campground so no cars...

The skies cleared just in time for this years "Harvest Moon" and a spur of the moment urge to go camp overnight on Orcas Island was cleared with my wife.
I wait until well past sundown before taking off from camp, riding quietly alone up through the dense forest in a bubble of light.
The moon was rising in the east above Mount Baker when I got to the observation area on the summit. Beautiful!

I just had to bike to the 1606 site explored by Samuel de Champlain, only a few miles from my home in Gloucester, Mass. Two years before he founded the city of Quebec in 1608.

Only a vintage bicycle would do ...

Today Dallas had a bit cooler temps topping out at about 91 degrees. Sure beats 100 plus of which we had a bunch this summer.
I think it was about 88 degrees when I finished.

I rode a 40 mile loop around a large section of Dallas.
The bike chosen today was a 1990 Bridgestone CB0.

Some art I passed by downtown.

Bank of America Plaza, currently the tallest building in Dallas, Texas at 72 stories, 921 feet / 280.7 meters. That's not super tall compared to the other super tall structures around the world but it's the tallest we have here so I guess everything is not really bigger in Texas. Ha!.

Half a lifetime ago I participated in a fundraiser to climb all 72 stories. I thought I did pretty good at between 16 to 17 minutes until I learned several fit firefighters finished first in half my time.

A few buildings along the way downtown.

Just a backwards shot downtown. Reunion Tower ball in far background.

Dallas City Hall designed by I.M. Pei.

A photo of the city hall showing inverted pyramid design.

4 seater as gate art along the Santa Fe trail. If this thing was ridden at one time I bet corners were fun.

At White Rock Lake.

I had hoped to "ride my age" for my 68th birthday last week, but a sacroiliac injury at the beginning of the summer and an early September bout of Covid minimized my peak season riding and fitness, so I settled for 68 km. On the way back I stopped at Lost Lake Park on the San Joaquin River for the first time all year. Heavy winter and spring rains had flooded the park and it was closed until some time in July, and this was the first time I had ridden that far out since mid-June.

Gloucester! We visited from Seattle and loved your town, reminded us of old Seattle. I could live there and eat lobster rolls til I croaked!

Today, I didn't. Yesterday it p*ssed rain on me about twenty miles into a forty mile ride, so today, I'm cleaning my drive train and repacking hubs. Bleah!

Just a short local ride on my Halloween Horror bike a 1978 fairly nice light tourer turned into a upright bar coaster brake circa 2000 hipster SS.

I hate seeing ratty flags at half mast.

Replying with the picture because it deserves reposting. Di you use your regular P+S camera and if so, use it with a tripod? Very nice!

Howdy Hugh! I simply used my Samsung S22 phone.

I was excited to see you now have a zero bike at Gugies.
Perhaps we'll see you out here in the PNW more often. Maybe a trip to the San Juan Islands is in order...

Thanks

YES Go Stu, go!

Beautiful fall day. Time to go chase some freshies up on Snoqualmie Pass
Not fresh snow but fresh hopped beer....
Washington State produces most of the Hops grown in the USA. Every fall when the harvest of these green cones begins, craft breweries around the state make the trip to Eastern Washington to pick up a portion of these before they are dried and processed.
The hops, fresh off the vine are used to create Fresh Hopped Beers which gives these seasonal brews a unique tangy flavor and aroma.
For me, it’s a good excuse for a bike ride up to Snoqualmie Pass to have one of these beers at the DRUBRU brewery.

Fall colors are just beginning to show in the Big Leaf and Vine Maples the line the Snoqualmie Valley Trail by my house in North Bend.
It’s still a bit cool when I take the cut off to the Iron Horse Trail

Hey, I earned this!

As I’m sitting in the beer garden I see activity above the Alpental Ski Area a couple of miles away. I need to go check this out.

I finish my beer then get another in a can to go, stuffing it in my saddlebag. I ride up the Alpental Valley to the Ski area to get a closer look. A civilian version of a Blackhawk Helicopter is hovering at the base area with a cable lowered to the ground.

It looks like they are hauling buckets of cement up to pour foundations for new lift towers high on the mountain.

Sadly, no ride today. Several consecutive days of crummy (want to use a different word here) weather are in the works. Took my umbrella to the morning farm market. I shortened a typical forty mile loop to twenty in view of dark clouds approaching last evening, and got home with only a few drips caught. Half an hour after my return, it started pouring. Two days ago, I had to repack bearings as I got caught in a shower on another regular forty mile loop. 'tis the season I guess.

Thankful as always to post this thread, esp on a day like this

Started with layers - leg warmers, two layers + light coat. Ended with short sleeves and shorts.

World Famous

After a descent and shallow climb - Oh Yeah! = off the 410 Hwy.

👍

😀 🎵 nothing feels quite like the top of th hill.

A good day to fly …… on the long & mighty descents

That marker is vintage, too

Almost done - gliding but facing 6 mi UP.

Every leaf at once now …. shine …. and shimmer in the breezes

Rained most of yesterday and the front delivered our first taste of Fall weather today. 50's and super windy.
When I had Covid last month tore the Davidson down and did a complete rebuild, replacing the friction shifted 8 speed for indexed bar end ten speed, new bar tape, and a new RD & chain.
Messed around on it for a couple of hours and then came home for a hot shower.

Today I did the ride I was hoping to do last Sunday. Took out the Azor for it's longest ride ever all the way over to the other side of the valley. 21 miler which isn't really what I see this bike really being made for. That said, it was really comfortable and had the gears needed to climb the few short but steep hills on this ride. At times though you could really feel the weight of this one. I also found out not to one hand it while leaning over the front reattaching a bungie cord to the milk crate. Almost crashed when the front wheel went wonky wobbly unexpectedly as I leaned forward, lesson learned. It's nice being able to take a real camera setup out in the one. Color were not that great today though.

Sunny and nice today took a short ride on the bike trail with the Specialized somewhat modern trainer a nice change of pace from the SS coaster horror bike. Got some nice fall pics hard to believe most of the leaves will be gone and there will likely be snow on the ground in places this time next week.
