In the Pacific Northwest it's days of rain, showers, down pours, drizzle, and repeat.

Isn't it the same in the winter, spring and summer?

Depends on the year - this summer it hardly rained at all. Last October, I logged 470 dry miles, but last December, it rained or snowed almost every day.

We've already had a hard frost (last week) and it's snowed (lightly) several days as well. Most of the leaves are still on the trees, and there's no ice on the roads (yet), so I'm still riding.

Well this weekend we finally get a break from temps in the low 90's and 90%+ humidity we have been having here in NW Florida. Supposed to have lows in the high 40's and highs around 75 for the next several days. We need the break from this soggy blanket over this area all the time. Good riding weather this weekend, time to ride some!

Cold, windy, gray, yellow trees dropping stuff all over my lawn that I have to rake up before it rains, mildews, and messes up my grass! Frost on the car windshields, too, and making rail crossings dangerous on any 2 wheeler!

Hey you kids -- no I mean leaves!! Get off my lawn!!!!

Usually if I wait a few days the wind blows them all to parts unknown.

Oh, yeah, hearing the Michigan Marching Band out practicing, and cars parked all over my clogged neighborhood on football Saturdays.

Hey you tailgaiters! Get off my lawn!

By the way, this week, So. California will be experiencing another sign of Fall... Monday, cool 65 degrees, Tuesday, cool, and rainy, Wednesday, heating up, 74 degrees, Thursday, 80 degrees and today predicted to be sunny and 90+. I hate this "hot" "cold" "hot" "cold" stuff. Just get cool and be done with it!

+1 on that and don't forget the onset of S.A.D. I have a happy light this year and am taking vitamin D supplements so hopefully I won't feel like slashing my wrists by January this year.

When we have to turn the furnace on!

Usually, that is in mid to late November, as the house warms up to 70 or above during the day, before that.

However, this year is different. We've had it on for about a week or ten days. The temp hasn;t gotten above the 40s for better than a week, with lows in the 20s.

October is usually beautiful here, but cold and rainy has been the norm so far.

During today's ride I was reminded of a couple more signs of Fall. Headwind and gunshots. This was opening weekend of gun season for deer. I heard several shots during my ride today. One guy must have been sighting his rifle because he fired off about ten rounds over about two minutes.

Around here (SW Ohio, N Kentucky) there's the fall rash of deer/car collisions; I see a lot more dead deer along the sides of the roads, most with a memorial display of plastic/fiberglass/glass debris from the car that hit them. It's also when high school football and marching band seasons have gone on long enough that I'm wishing it was already winter and those were done for another year! Like next weekend - the marching band performs before the football game, then at half-time, then follows up the next day with two competitions, roughly 25 miles apart, with almost 10 whole minutes more than the absolute bare minimum time needed to break down the gear and load the truck after the first competition, drive to the second one, then (in panic mode!) unload the truck, reassemble the props and get out on the field.
- Bob
