Out of curiosity, do all hydraulic calipers have plastic pistons? I actually expected them to be aluminum.

I believe they are ceramic, at least the ones in my RS785s are. On another note, thanks for sharing your experience, and I'm glad to hear you had no issues with the replacement caliper!

The upper end pistons are ceramic, lower tier are typically aluminum. Plastic wouldn't have shattered.

Looking at it again I believe they are ceramic. When the piston shot out it hit the opposite one and now I see that one actually got chipped by the impact.
