True. Unfortunately I have no other data. There was definitely a good head wind last year that accounted for the slower times than 2008.

FWIW - I've done it 3 times, 2006, 2008 & 2009. My best time, by over 1 minute, was in 2008 which was the only time that I did it with clip-on aerobars. I only used them for the first 1.5 miles or so, then as it got steeper I put my hands on the hoods.
Not sure if it was the aerobars or other factors (wind, fitness, heat, etc.) that was responsible for the faster time in 2008, but I've put them back on for Saturday.
You know I did the same years, and I also had the best time in 2008. I think for me fitness played a big roll in it. I lost a huge chunk of power in 2009, and still not gotten it back.

10:08:30 for me. Little later than I'd like, but not too bad. Wish the faster folks were going after me, so I'd have people to chase as they pass.

I saw that. Based on his high number he must have entered late, but they made an exception for him. He's starting where he is because there was a 10 min gap between the women's fields and the 35+. So, he should have a clear road with no one to chase until he starts catching the slower women in the last couple miles.

I get to start 1 min & 30 sec behind 2 friends who will be great carrots for me.

I did end up putting the mini TT bars on.

I replaced the support pads with bunion bandages to reduce weight (& more as a joke than to provide any cushion)

Oh, I get it, he was a late reg and all the slots had been assigned already, but there was a planned gap between the 35F and 35M123 so they stuck him in there. So the P12 winner will have to wait around for half an hour to find out if NedO's time is better - HARSH!

Floyd Landis spotted on Diablo today. It's not possible he's doing this event, is it? Perhaps under an assumed name?
I wonder if he'd sign my "False Positive" book I got in support of his innocence.

Oh, you can't hear my tone of voice on the internet, can you?

I'm starting at 10:38, so I could conceivably be the last one to finish. Everybody wave at the two wheeled broomwagen!

Anybody know if/where/when the results are posted? Been reloading the c4racing.org site, but nothing there yet.

Thanks!

I waited forever for the results to get posted. I came in at 29:47.4, avg 325w (4.2w/kg). That's actually 1w higher than my best OLH effort, and for 10 minutes more. I'm happy with the result, but not satisfied. I will aim lower next year.

I stopped after Curtis, so if you were behind him and didn't pass him, then no.

Anybody who thinks I might have got them, check my video slideshow HERE

I got most everybody that started before 9:30 but of course they're not all great photos.

I'm sure that in one of your photos I'm in the process of overtaking another rid...... Nope. I'm getting pummeled again.
Thanks for posting the solo shot, and not me being passed.
I am, in my defense, suitably attired in a "Poseur" jersey.

I'm hoping when the results are posted it turns out I'm not dead last... but I may well be. I spent all my time around 92-95% max heart rate and thought I was going to die when I finished.
More than you care to read about my first time effort at

A few other people you might recognize.

Notice suspicious wrist movement on this guy followed by 100w power increase...

Special guest star: Ned Overend

Who's this guy with the rainbow trim??

That hurt... a lot. I couldn't breeze after I crossed the finish line. Looking at the data I held pretty consistent effort but it dropped badly in last two minutes, which is what happened in 2008 when I got my best time. This time around I was about 30 seconds slower, but average power is about 12W higher. Unfortunately I am also 15 pounds heavier.

Weee, results are up!!!

https://www.c4racing.org/www/results/diablo10.html

My daughter (the only junior girl riding this year) got 40:50, and I did 31:48 (35+ 4/5). First go for both of us, and we're both pleased with our (and each other's ) results. With my daughter's $5 entry fee and her winning $10 Sports Basement gift certificate, you could say she earned her first net $5 racing.

We were wearing Berkeley High School MTB team kits, black with red & yellow and a cartoonish yellowjacket bee.

I was on my "light" bike -- 1993ish steel Specialized Sirrus with 7-speed rear cassette and downtube shifters. If they had a prize for lowest-market-value bike on the course yesterday, I would have been a serious contender.
