That is some funky looking geometry; the whole thing feels "off" somehow.

Front wheel is smaller and the rear tire is larger to boot? Looks almost like the front wheel is taco'd a little bit too, around the downtube seems folded towards the viewer. Same rim, so maybe the wheels aren't diff't sizes but tires definitely appear to be.

I'm just noticing the axles are at the same spot on the trim baseboards behind but both don't seem to go up the wall quite as far as each other.

What about that headset and stem? Is that rust or red to match the hubs?

It's hard to make a Merlin that unappealing. I'm really curious about this frame (not $900 curious).

By "something happening", do you mean guy trying to get 5x value for relatively generic bikes?

Her: you have to get rid of some bikes!
Him: you're right dear, I'll put some up on CL!

The guy in Carmel IN had been selling (overpriced) bikes for as long as I've been in the vintage bike hobby (at least five years).

Ah! I've never had reason to expand my search outside Ohio's borders, and this is my first encounter with the listings. I thought some of you might be interested in the Paramount listed (obviously not at the listed price, but that's not my business). Also, since I'm not looking for the bikes, didn't realize that they were generic. Apparently, I'm part of this guy's target (until I'm armed with fastidious research from here and elsewhere).

I'm fully aware that a pro level frame will not make a rider like me any faster, and would not spend $1000 on a bike!

I love that they named a frame after St. Christopher, patron saint of travelers!

I'm speechless. I've done this very procedure to a few old English 3-speed frames, but I would never have done it to a Derosa. Such a travesty.
