Barely 50°F at the warmest part of the day. Was a toss up of which to ride - bike or horse. The bike won only because I wanted to see if I could tough out the chilly wind at 18mph. If so, I would RSVP for the group ride next week when the temps are forecast for the same. 15 miles later it turns out I could tough out the chill ...only because I dressed appropriately.

Everything is already putting on the drab non-colors of pre-winter, so nothing was photo-worthy.

Pre-dawn this morning, 36F, 15.5 miles. I had some rides in mind but messed around and messed around and finally decided I wasn't in the mood for an expedition, so I went over to a hilly neighborhood that I usually just pass through on the other side of the valley and mapped it all out.

This evening, 2.2 miles walking in my own neighborhood with a 50-lb pack on. 34F, clear starlit skies and a full moon. The only sound was wind through leaves. Lovely to be out in weather like that.

Did something to my low back and not able really to ride, but more than able to walk with the bike in the fog to the croissant mecca and retrieve croissants. Rode back best I could one-handed, the other balancing pastries.

I wouldn't lean that Bianchi up against the paint job like that. I always lean with the tires, saddle or pedals making contact.

Got in an hour ride on the trike. Beautiful weather today, after two days of gloomy rain. Lots of colors popping now.

Back felt better, so woke up early and got in about 55 miles in a little more than 3 1/2 hours. No climbing, really. Just lovely. So many homeless people camping in the bushes to the side of this trail (Springwater), though. I have experienced more than my share of heartache due to life-threatening sickness, but seeing all those people suffering just broke my heart. I just don't understand why we can't do more to help some of those folks. Reminds me a lot of some of the conditions I've seen in parts of Brazil and Mexico. Seems like with all we have, that we should be able to do more.

But I did not let it ruin my ride. Ride was fun and a good workout.

Another 7 mile ride this afternoon that included my HIIT Hill. Strava showed a Personal Best for me today - about half the speed of the fast kids on that hill.

2nd ride in 2 1/2 years

Went out this morning for a quick 14 mile ride. This is my second ride on the road bike since Oct. 2017. I have been recovering from taking two rounds at the Vegas mass shooting. I just was getting back from physical therapy two months ago when I was shot again as a bystander in a road rage thing here in Southern California. Geese I hate that. Anyway, the riding felt great. I have forgotten how much it can calm me to just spin on the road. Drivers were courteous, as I was to them. Having to wear braces on wrist and shoulder was a pain, but it still felt good. I had put new tires on the bike two years ago they had less than 200 miles on them, but due to lake of pressure the are cracking and need to be replaced. Oooh, I have to go the bike shop. Yes.

I did a 45 minute Sufferfest/GCN video for VO2 Max. It was a bit of a killer. These GCN videos are new to Sufferfest and what Sufferfest adds is ERG control of the trainer that you don't get with YouTube. I really liked the format, with two guys on trainers coaching, and ride video during the hard intervals (Dolomites I think.)

I'm going to go through the others that were just added, but these are shorter at a half hour.

You show great courage. Really glad you got to got for a ride. Stay safe. And maybe think of moving to some nice, quiet, sleepy town on the Big Island or in Tuscany. Plenty of cyclists there.

Just back home from 2 weeks of river cruising in Europe. No riding but way too much food and wine during that time. I rode to the in-laws which was only 50 miles but it HURT!! Headwinds for 40 miles didn’t help either. Oh well. It was nice to ride again.

Other than ice, I would rather ride in anything before I ride in heavy headwind.

On a Western Caribbean last week enjoying food and wine yet came home 1lb lighter. Walked decks, stairs and shore stops. Got out yesterday for first ride in 2 weeks completing 107 miles. Cool weather for SW FL with winds up to 15+mph for final 30 miles.

Yep. Just about 18 miles, all in town, half (stupidly) during rush hour, because I got a late start. Still, it was nice to get out. I am always surprised at how slow I go when I am in the city. I guess it must be me. Or maybe the lights and stop signs have some role, too. I dunno. Anyway, it was a good workout and fun. That's all I really care bout.

Daily "wake up" ride. 14 miles out and back on the bay road. Got rained on yesterday, but not today!

Really Steve?! You got shot two separate times in the last two years? That is just incredible and I can't imaging how you've dealt with it. God bless you Bro and start hanging out with a better class of people. Certainly not this group.

11 miles this afternoon with one hill. Mid-40’s partly sunny. Supposed to be more wintry in coming days.

52 miles back up to the in-laws house on Thursday, second time this week. I have several routes I can do so went a southern route this time. Regardless of the route there’s always great food waiting for me!!

Left at about 0530, 34ishF. Was going to do about 65 miles, but once I got on the other side of the river, where it is colder, the frost really started to become a problem. Hardly anyone had been through my route (MUP), so it was pretty much just solid frost everywhere. Because my route would take me into the sort of foothills of Mt. Hood, where it is colder still, I pulled the plug and turned around and came back. Wound up doing a very nervous 26 miles and just glad, quite honestly, to make it back without putting the bike on the pavement. Pretty sure I made the right call.

Nothing epic, just an 18 mile out-and-back late afternoon ride. But I had a nice tailwind heading out, and by the time I got to the turnaround point the winds had died down, so no headwind coming back. Plenty of energy + favorable winds = best ride pace this year.

Yes I did. This is my third month since I picked up my bike September 3 and I have improved dramatically (at least I think so)! Before this, haven’t ridden a bike since the 1970s (outside of a stationary bike here and there at the gym over all those years).
