Probably a 1985 Spectrum. Not a ton of use ever. It's biggest problem was that the previous/original owner was also a heavy smoker. The entire bike is coated with a tacky yellow film, nicotine.

It's pretty much required full disassembly to get it cleaned.

Full DA 7400, and low miles (ya know, smoking makes it hard to ride a lot). I'm only replacing tires, hood covers, brake pads, bar tape, and cables and housing. I'll lube the bearings and wax it and hopefully ride it this week.

I did my first-ever bicycle disc brake bleed on a friend's 29er. Shimano's instructions basically mirror the protocol on the internet for SAAB and Ducati clutches, or really any hydraulic system where the lines have a low-point that keeps air bubbles from all going out the caliper nipple or up to the reservoir.

The fabled reverse-bleed was the technique, using a syringe and tubing to force fluid up through the system along with any bubbles. It was much easier to do the Shimano brakes in my living room than the same protocol on a SAAB or Ducati, which is usually accomplished on the side of the road in the rain with traffic whizzing by.

However I'm not impressed with the performance of the braking system. It's worse than long-reach Campy sidepulls! I can't even endo the bike and it squeals to high heaven, making dogs howl for miles around. I think the pads are contaminated with brake fluid from my friend's attempts to bleed the system before he threw in the towel and brought the bike to me. I tried to use acetone and clean everything up, but it didn't help. The pads are like little oil-soaked sponges and they keep releasing a sheen of goo onto the discs.

Makes me appreciate my rim brakes all the more

Threw this together last week from the parts bin. This is about the 5th round for this frame since I got it but I think this is the best version to date. Beautiful it's not but it's fairly light and I can throw it in the trunk of the car with one wheel hanging out when I need to drop the car off to have it worked on and ride the bike home then ride it back when the car is done. It's all parts that came off other bikes, that were purchased for other bikes and didn't work out as planned or parts I acquired cheap or free. Some of the parts are nice quality with cosmetic issues like the Deerhead derailleurs and others are just functional crap like the Chinese brake levers, it's just whatever I had with no foreseen use that would fit. The only new items that have not previously been used on a bike are the Kenda 27 X 1-3/8" gumwall knobby tires and the Shimano friction thumb shifters. The tires were purchased for something else 3 or 4 years ago and wouldn't clear and the shifters were free. I have 2 other major projects going but they are both post-2000.

I have been doing some general maintenance on a couple of bikes. What I have been doing mostly, that is bike related; organizing my tools, supplies, etc. In general, getting my bike room set up in a way that is more efficient and less cluttered, easier to maneuver and keep clean. I have a small,spare bedroom that I am making my bike work area. Tomorrow I am going to get mats for the floor, a couple of tools that I need, look for small item storage and check for lighting that might work better than what I have.

I broke it down, figured it out, and fixed it!

I'm in the process of refreshing my '95 Killer V, a little at a time. I finally found & downloaded the pdf file, for Cannondale's Force 40 brake boosters yesterday. Today, I cleaned & greased the main pivots (kinda like a cantilever post), and set them up the way they're supposed to be. I had already cleaned & greased the canti posts a few days ago, so that just left final adjustments to the pads & cables, which is pretty simple, even for me. 😁😉
One of the spring stops (?) was broken, on the front Force 40, but it still works far better than it was now, and both front & rear brakes work fine now. 👍

After that, I got some fresh grease inside my headset. I'll need to upgrade that whole thing, but for now, at least it doesn't squeak, lol, and I at least know that it's relatively safe. 🤔😉
Next project, repacking my hubs. Those are Acera X Parallax, which is a new one on me. I've had Deore LX Parallax hubs before, but never needed to repack them. I guess I'll have to read the instructions, if I can find them. 🙄😉

Freshened up my backup beater bike...just a great no frills bike...
Didn’t do much, front and rear bearings, lubed front and back rear brakes, derailleurs, no adjustments needed!
Totally built/rebuilt quite a few years ago...company bike, ridden, neglected, forgotten...it has never disappointed!
Another freebie from years back!


Just picked up a donor bike with all good SLR brake parts...this has worked for more years than I can remember...


I know, I know, I shouldn’t clamp on the top tube...pretty much just hanging the bike here while I redo the wheel bearings...

Pulled these out of the top drawer...I gotta start writing down what is wrong with a bike so I don’t forget and go for a ride later! I also use to write down the combos on old locks when I figure them! Also for putting for sale prices during sale days.
