What's the best deal you've gotten on a bike?
You can get some great steals online like Craigslist or Facebook marketplace, so just curious if anyone has ever gotten a real premium bike for dirt cheap.

Best deal I got was a free bicycle from the Police department that was giving them away. Not a premium brand or anything, but after fixing what was wrong with it I have been enjoying commuting to work with it.

How about a MIYATA Seven Ten with Shimano 105 hubs and Serfa Seca tires so new that #1 . they weren't mounted yet and #2 . they still had the tags for hanging them up on them. That bike was mostly Suntour including Powershifters on the downtube. Campagnolo brake levers although I don't know which ones. Black Modolo Speedy brake calipers . the bike cost me a whopping $30.00 Canadian.
Another great deal I got was from my BinL's neighbour who threw away a Specialized Rock Hopper MTB because he couldn't find the key to his U-lock. Took me two minutes with a Dremel tool to cut the lock. Here's the bike as I got it. It has a complete ALIVIO groupset including the hubs.

My '84 Pug. My N bike. Bought it new for $189. Amortize that over 35 years--I think that was a good deal.

Last year in August I saw a bike on FB that a store in Atlanta was selling. I called and asked a few questions and immediately gave them a deposit to hold it until I could get there the next day.
It's a 2015 Cannondale Synapse Carbon 105. The guy who traded it in owns 40 bikes, they told me, and he buys and trades bicycles all the time. He had upgraded the Synapse with Si Hollowgram cranks ($600) and a $1,300 set of Reynolds carbon wheels.
The bike looks like it had been hardly ridden. It came with all of the receipts ($4,450 total) and I paid $1,250 for it, plus GA tax.
So far I've ridden it over 5,000 miles and I absolutely LOVE it!

I got a Dean titanium El Diente Superlight frame from Dean for $1300. El Diente SLs usually cost $3000 to $3500. Someone ordered the bike, put a deposit (half down) on it and then decided they didn’t want it. It just happened to be my size. The head tube is a little long but I can deal with that. It rides very nice.

I also picked up a used Dean Ti hardtail frame from a local EBay retailer for about $800. I found a set of Phil Wood disc hubs at the Veloswap in Denver for about $300 and then a Dean integrated titanium riser bar/stem for about $150 at a later Veloswap (it’s a yearly event). And, finally, I found a titanium Dean seatpost at my local co-op. I actually had to talk them up on the price. Here’s that bike

I also picked up a Moots titanium riser bar (which is rare) for $125 on EBay. Amazingly, that is a heck of a deal. Someone was selling two of them and had the auctions ending about 30 seconds apart. The first one went for around $250 but even one ignored the other one.

Quite a while back, but I found a Paramount Waterford Road with Shimano 600 components in a pawn shop in Hampton Roads, VA. Paid $200 for it. Now the best part - I was asked to race for HDK Cycles around the same time, and got to thinking about the odds of finding a custom painted Paramount in near perfect condition, so I called and asked the owner if he knew anything about the bike. He said, "sure - it was stolen from us five months ago in a smash and grab." Turns out insurance took care of them, and he was ecstatic that I found and bought it. He was even more ecstatic because that particular pawn shop had good security and they were able to match up the camera footage of the seller with his own security footage. They determined it was the same person, and the local PD set up a sting when the pawn shop had him come in to get his cash for selling the bike.

Picked up a new Cinelli Superstar frame on Amazon for $420. Built it up with campy Potenza groupset and have a pretty nice bike for a little over a grand.

Lightly used BH Cristal, ~6 years old with full carbon frame and Shimano 105 (5600) components, scored for $650 + $70 shipping.
The thing fits perfectly, and I've put over 10,000 miles on it now. At some point, I upgraded the groupset and wheels.
An even better deal was a Centurion Lemans frame (with fork, BB, and crankset) just sitting by a dumpster in an alley one day. That made a nice bike.

Best deal I got was free. It's a Roadmaster mountain bike, so yeah, Walmart bike, but that thing's proven to be a good gravel bike so far. The best thing about a free bike is that you don't have to worry too much if it gets torn up.

Guess it'd have to be my wife's and my '06 LeMond road bikes. They were on sale and maybe the shop had some idea what was happening between Greg LeMond and Trek, as it was a good sale. 13 years later, and they still perform as if they just rolled off the showroom floor. I maintain them well, but still am more than happy with how well they have held up and still perform.

Half the fun of N+1 is bikes is shopping for them.
In 2017 I picked up this Ridley for 1400.00 from a runner who put a couple hundred miles on it to nurse back to health a knee injury and decided he didnt like cycling. Sold with all the paperwork showing he paid ~4500 and came with all the parts and pieces. In addition to the bike it the HED Ardennes wheels came with it (700$ worth of wheels)
Shortly after that I bought my wife a bike from Blue Book Bicycle. Got her this beautiful Airen 5c diamondback with zero miles on it for 1200.00
Summer of 2018 I bought a winter bike from Random Bike Parts. They had it listed for 1400+ and I offered 1200 on Ebay for it and they accepted. I also had a 100$ coupon from ebay that I was able to use and upon receipt one of the tires was bad and they refunded me another 25$. Blue Competition ProSecco with full Ultegra. Not a bad deal for 1075.00. (Lots of upgrades here that did not come with the bike)
I see a lot of brand new full carbon bikes with Ultegra going for 1500-1800 on ebay and craigslist but seems you can get them for around 1000-1200 if you are patient enough.

I got my Orbea Orca 2013 model brand new from the local bike store in Jan 2019 for $20.00 over cost.... so I only paid $1700.00 for a bike that would have cost $3000.00.
Of course I have since upgraded the wheelset, drive train, bars, stem, saddle, and pedals over the years as well as adding a cadence sensor and Stages power meter.

'86 Miyata 710. Original components, just needed a rear tire for $130.

After replacing BOTH tires, shifters changed to barcons, bar tape, new dual-pivot brakes, new cables...
Now that mom is gone, I have no need to have an AZ bike, so I shipped it home to Ohio.
That said, I have several trash-picked bikes. Just cheap MTB BSOs that I'll ride to the corner store.
If they were to get stolen, the most I would be out is the newer tires... My good rides never leave my sight!

All of them. I've never paid much more than $200 for a bike, new or used, and felt like I got a good deal and the sellers weren't shorted.
Best deal might be a Diamondback Podium carbon frame a friend gave me recently, but I haven't built it up into a rideable bike yet. Still deciding on components and wheels, in addition to stuff from my bits and pieces bin. Good winter project.

My secondhand Giant hybrid was $150. The previous owner didn't use it much, so it pretty much was like having a new bike, without having to pay the $500 retail price from a bike shop. I've used it for nine years, so far, and it's taken me plenty of miles.Although, my previous bikes as a kid and teen were Huffys and a better deal ($25 each, secondhand), which lasted me throughout my teens (without any problems with the parts), the hybrid is my favorite.
