Switch to “nicer” aero wheel or stay as-is?
Hi all,
On my 80s vintage Cannondale road bike, I typically ride a 36/36 spoke combo of a random, 10-yr old average Alex Rims in front + a 1-yr old Sun Rims (off the shelf from Velomine) in back.
I recently picked up a nearly-free front wheel, a Ritchey Aero road, also probably a decade plus old, but with 24 bladed spokes. It feels lighter, looks nicer, and maybe spins smoother than the prior front.
I haven’t had big issues with my wheels so far. At 260+ “late-stage-pandemic” weight, am I asking for trouble in dropping my front spoke count by a dozen?

Put on the new wheel and ride it. If you break a spoke get it fixed. If you start breaking more than put back on your old wheel.
