Which bike should get the Tan Tires ?
Just got a set of Panaracer Pasela Protite 700X25C tires. I'm at odds, as to which bike Should get them . The Concorde still has 23C's, the Ciocc 25C's. I'm thinking the Ciocc, as it is the oldest.KB

I'd pick the Ciocc, simply because the Concorde is quite a flashy frame and doesn't need any distraction. Tanwalls might go well with the yellow bottle cages too.

I'd pick the Ciocc simply because the warm color of the paint would go better with the tan walls. Also, I'd definitely move those yellow bottle cages to the Concorde.

I hate tan. I can tolerate Conti brown. But when I buy a tire I overlook the color of the sidewall because i can't see it while riding, tan tires only anger me at coffee shops that sell $3.00 cookies. Hoping this helps.

Hey now, we ought to be able to accommodate differences of opinion like grownups. If anything, I think the Corcorde would really pop with some black tires with yellow accents.

Im of the opinion that almost all bikes look better with brown or tan sidewalls. There are some exceptions given for some color schemes, but still I haven't see a bike yet that tan or brown sidewalls detracted from the appearance of the bike.

I think tan sidewalls look better on darker colored bikes, so I would put them on the Ciocc. I also like tan on old bikes, so they would not look out of place on the Concord.

Thanks, when first got the Concorde, I had 700x21c , with thin yellow sidewalls. Those were replaced by the current 23c black tires that are on now.

Back in 1990, when I bought the bike , I think 21c were what we road in Europe. The 23c are okay on flat roads, but its the last bike to get 25c. Been slowly putting on 25/28c on all my bikes.

I sure remember using Michelin 21s almost exclusively back in the early 80s. I are am certain that I got more flats than now. I know I had 19s one time for a very short period of time. One blew out, front tire, on a downhill the 2nd or 3rd time I rode on them. I thought I was going to lose it and go down, but somehow kept it upright. Only had a 2 mile walk back to OC, MD to get a new tire. Actually got 2 and did away with the other 19.

I was glad, go make the transition to 25/28. What difference. The black 25c on the Ciocc, will go on the Concorde, as soon as the 23c are worn down a bit more. I wanted to dress up , one of the bikes with some tan walls.

Don't forget other color accents like Cable housing and bar tape/ hoods. these things can make a dull color ed bike really pop. Yellow or red cables on a black bike. White on almost anything.

I'm a 195# rider that still runs 22/23mm tires on several bikes. 25/28mm on some frames. A vintage DeRosa with 28s just sounds and feels wrong. The Falcon is super sharp handling with 23s. I cush along with some bikes tho' and enjoy my FUN rides (Freerange Unhinged Nowherespecialtogo)
One advantage of tan walls that our misplaced newbie overlooked is that you CAN see the sidewalls better when riding black roads - allowing a rider to detect any slow leaks before airing-out or going totally flat. Not much of an advantage, but it's sumpthin.
