Drop Bag Items for long races 100 milers
For all of you who done long endurance events, that let you use a drop bag.
What type of items do you put in your drop bag?
I am thinking more Gels, Banana, water bottle, mix
granola.
Real food, cookies?
suggestion please

Nobody here can tell you what food will work well for you in an endurance race setting. That's part of the preparation you need to do (for yourself). Every stomach is different. Weather plays a role too. And so does riding intensity. You need to do long rides and try different things. And then you will have your answer. This is one area where direct experiential learning is key.

Ensure is an interesting product for that usage. Quick way to get calories down, good nutritional balance. A friend of mine took a suitcase of Ensure to France for PBP. It doesn't exist in Europe outside of pharmacies. You'd have to try it out on some hard rides, see how you tolerate it.

That's what I was thinking.
The shortest ride I've used a drop bag on was ... thinking here ... 1200K randonnees.
I have done 400Ks and 600Ks where the route looped back to the start or to a place near where I lived or something so that I could pick up stuff or change or whatever, but no drop bags.
On the 1200Ks, my drop bags included:
- change of shorts
- something long-sleeved and a bit warmer
- change of socks, gloves, etc. (esp. for wet rides)
- a few toiletries in case I wanted to take a shower or brush my teeth
- small sleeping bag
- Ensure
- bag of salted almonds
- maybe a few granola bars

I think he's doing a MTB race, the Lutsen99, which has well stocked (pb&j, honey stinger waffles, fig newtons, gels etc ) aid stations every 20 miles. I suspect the bag drop is for those with special needs not covered by on course nutrition. Not sure what advice anyone here could provide about special needs or provisions. I'd just eat what they supplied.
