RD cable loop freeze up
Open to suggestions on this. Riding a new bike this winter and it looks like this one is really prone to this problem. On my old bike drying it out and coating with WD 40 at the start of the season would hold it most of the winter, maybe I would have to do it once again late season. On this bike, did that after the first cold night locked it up, but yesterday had the slushy ride home, bike dried in warm garage all night, but RD locked up again this morning. Grease? Wax? Some kind of cover for the top of the loop?

happened to me & I had to fix it on my way to work in really cold weather in the dark. I had rinsed the bike w water & stored it outside overnight. after that I was more careful w the water & kept it inside at night & inside at the work office. they do make a kind of cover for bike cable housings. it looks like a regular end cap but has a longer skinny piece that extends another 1/2"? along the cable. my road bike has at least one. I don't think I had any on that other bike that froze up. I think more than WD40 should be used. I'm sure other ppl will have info on proper bike cable lube. maybe something really light & not gooey, like with teflon in it?
when was the last time you changed that section of cable housing? how does that section of cable look?
