sounds like an awesome bike riding day!

We have a warm day tomorrow, but it will be ruined by 40 gusting to 60 km/h wind. Unpredictable last minute changes in the forecast make me leery of sending out invitations for group rides days in advance. Its easier to just go ride if a brief decent window opens if you aren't locked into a schedule.

Weekend forecast calls for 40F- 42F and partly sunny. Perfect riding weather....Singletrack trails are a muddy mess right now because of rain, snow and freeze/thaw which we had over the last few days. I'll be doing a 45 mile gravel grinder this weekend.

Got to 5C yesterday and the wind was half what they were forecasting. Currently 3C so I'm going to head out and ride a bit before the wind kicks up. The bridges on the new highway near me frost up pretty good overnight. The shoulders shaded all day by the south bridge walls can go all day without melting off. Rain tomorrow might be enough to keep me from riding, cold and wet bad combo.

the calm before the storm. rain, sleet snow coming tomorrow, did some chores around the house & waited for maximum temp which only reached 42 degrees. sunny but breezy. lots of ppl out walking the trails. a very nice day for couples
broke out the winter boots for the season
tried a new white camo balaclava I got for snow storms
but then switched to a simple knit hat
& found a shoe w/ some very healthy moss growing on it

Can't win them all. The wind dropped after I finished my ride. So if I started later it would have been warmer and less windy. Overall it was a much less windy than forecast, with the gusts topping out under 40 km/h. Riding mostly north - south with a west wind meant not getting a good tailwind or bad headwind for the most part, just a consistent side wind.

It was a beautiful day. There was a special service this morning at a synagogue we don't normally go to, the one in Woodstock, NY. Yes, that Woodstock. We also went to the service last night. My wife didn't seem keen on going this morning, but I encouraged her to go. I set off on my bike, not knowing if she would drive. It was about 30ºF and sunny. It was a ~23-mile ride. Google maps misled me, so I had to improvise on the route a bit. I thought I'd be 20-30 minutes late, but I was only about 6 minutes late. Travel time was less than estimated. So I had a great time riding, and the service was super nice, and I made some new friends.
On the way back, it was in the 40s, and I decided to take a longer route back. I was using my phone and external battery, and for some reason, the phone went down to a 7% charge. It saw the battery, but the charge level didn't go up for the longest time. I thought my phone might die, leaving me with no navigation. (I really should carry a map in unfamiliar territory!) After a long time, the battery level did start rising at a normal rate. I guess I won't leave the external battery out in the cold.
Woodstock is in the Catskills region.
This is the Ashokan Reservoir which feeds New York City, 100 miles away. It is mind-boggingly vast, which the picture doesn't show.

It was cool yesterday. I racked up 62 on my Allroads. Thermal jersey with windbreaker, Bontrager boots and heavy gloves, thermal beanie and I was good to go.

No, what's it called? I didn't end up in town at all.
Where did you end up riding?

Well, I'm glad you and I got the same idea for yesterday. The number of good riding days ahead is unknown, and it was clearly going to be good, and it was. It was one of my nicest rides this year. Towards the end of the day, we got a thin cloud cover making the sky grayish white but not threatening or unpleasant. I love being out in sunlight, and this was satisfying.
