I put the MTB triple back on the touring bike, after I used it for commuting for a while - I seldom use top gear these days, even with the mtb triple.

Lovely calipers, but wow, if they aren’t some of the most over engineered specimens I’ve seen yet...

Be careful of those slotted washers that clamp the cable. I found them unable to hold modern (narrower) cables. When tightening them, one washer split at the slot. I replaced one slotted washer on each brake, with another washer without slots, and they worked fine.

Elbow grease, I’m happy with the road grime, and surface rust 99% gone. A little lube on the threads, and pivot points... I think they’ll make nice calipers for someone as I’ll most likely be posting them for sale in the near future.

I already had a pair of the second version, and bought these afterwrds because they came with the levers I was missing. The only difference I’m seeing between the two is that the later issue are screen printed as opposed to engraved. The later version also has a more streamlined pad holder mounting bolt. Finally, I’m fairly certain both braked came either nutted or recessed. But I’m not so sure the second version offered nutted mounting..

I stripped and waxed my Wife's Ironman some time ago. There was no rush because she hadn't quite gotten over the last time I crashed her out. Her bike came to us with some GPX hubs with that silly flat gray paint finish which I think is ugly but I liked the Wolbers. Hmmmmm
I had some shiny 105 9 speed hubs...with the same flange diameter as the GPXs...and some shiny only-used-once nipples. The wheels built themselves. And then what? Years ago, I bought a 7700 crankset that came with Sti levers, brakes, and derailleurs. So, now I can teach my wife how to use the new drive train. She has the 105 cranks with the 7700 rings because 170mm.

New Dia Compe levers...they were shiny. And the Mafacs were challenged...

All Japanese drive train pieces together. Shimano tricolor crank was shiny-ized by hours of work. She and I used a lot of sandpaper... She tolerated the matching tricolor FD as is (phew)

That was an exercise in fun (not $... ).

I had her hold both cranksets before I attempted anything...she said, "wow, there is a big difference in weight"... Whoop, that gave me license to play.

Cups were actually pretty cheap. "By action" is the brand. And they thankfully played nice with a Tange spindle I had...which was a good fit for the Shimano crank, which had started on since it was largely scuffed. She took over on the polishing exercise in futility, and decided anodized aluminum sucks. The cups and bearings are actually pretty decent out of the box.

What made me cry was I decided to allow the use of my British thread, french Atom 700 pedals for the bike. Had to completely rebuild it, new bearings, etc... but the outside in top shape. Penny needed something French and pretty, so I relented.

The AR derailleur was completely canibalized from left-overs from a lot I combined to make a really nice VX rear derailleur for my next money pit...the KHS.

Funny thing is, the first bike I saved for and bought at age 10 was a 1977 Peugeot...very similar level.

I don't see the point of quill pedals if you're not using toe clips because you have to flip them over. But some people don't seem to mind.

Covid isolation drove me into a two derailleur overhaul today. And the third is in the parts bath. No before pics, but here is one with the finished parts and some of the left-overs. I will need to clean the top of the work bench so the extra jockey pulleys are up for grabs. Both sets are 5 mm compatible and seem to be use-able. My bikes are riders and not museum pieces, so if you need either of these sets PM me and they are yours for cost of shipping. Smiles, MH

She said she was in 7th heaven today riding around, but the saddle was an if.

If her butt hurts, yours will as well only for different reasons. Spend the $ on a good ladies saddle, even if not a Terry. My wife fell in love with the old Avocet padded seat and that was why she would even ride with me. Smiles, MH

I spent this afternoon swapping seat post, stem and pedals on this '61 Legano Gran Premio prior to shipping it to a new owner. I had installed a longer stem and seat post to try to fit my 6' tall self to the little 54cm frame. I had it just over a year. Its a great little bike and I will miss it. I would miss it more if it actually fit me better. I'm not a flipper, and this is the first bike I've sold in many years. I enjoyed my last ride yesterday, and hope somebody else will enjoy it too. If it pops up here for sale one day, and it fits, grab it. Its a great little bike. I still have, and love, my other blue Legnano Roma, got it new in '64, and it still fits!

Shorter seat post, stem, and Sheffield old school pedals installed, ready to move on.

my gf bought a walmart c9 ergo saddle. I put it on for her 3 or 4 years ago and she rode 50 plus miles a day many days on it. I no longer pick saddles for anyone. What works, works.

Well, I recently broke down and put new (but cheapo) v-brakes on the mighty Killer V, because the whole set of brakes was pretty cheap, and just pads alone, not so much. 🙄🤔😉 These are Origin 8, whatever model they call it, lol, but they’re actually pretty decent. I had to bend the springs a touch, on the front ones, but the rears were perfect as shipped. Probably just a slight miscalculation, by whoever welded up my Pepperoni fork. 🤔😉

I also lost a chainring bolt, somehow, and had to pull the crank, to remove the other half of it. Those needed cleaned pretty bad anyways, I keep spilling coffee on the BB shell area, lol. 😲😉 And it rides better, when the chain isn’t trying to run over that darn chainring bolt. 🤪😊

I wanted to give my wife a better drivetrain, so I replaced the original friction shifters for some ratcheting thumbies, and changed out a 40/34 double for a 40/34/28 triple.

I also added new Tektro levers that play really well with the stock sidepulls, and there is a 700c conversion coming soon.

I'll fix the rear fender line once I swap wheels, I promise!
