What is going on with Garmin Connect?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I don't consider discussing this possibilities around this topic to be "obsessing". I'd be concerned about a data breach or ransomware attack on Google or Apple too.

Then throw away your Garmin and smartphone. And stop using the internet.

I work on mainframe systems for hospitals and the only way to protect the data is to have no public assess from the internet. VPN, SSL and SFTP are used to isolate the systems.

Again, you mentioned them. And you suggested that insurance companies would illegally buy the info from criminals

They don't have any value to anybody. Why mention them?
What a weird thing to argue about.

I'm not trying to eliminate all risk, nor am I questioning your expertise on the topic.
Just because someone knows there's a possibility of risk with sharing data online doesn't mean they have to give up all concern about it.

Why are you arguing about it?

It was a weird thing for you to mention in the first place.

Try, but what Garmin has is minimal compared to what out smartphones give away.

Had no problem syncing this last week this morning. All my data is intact. Good to have it back (nearly all of the way). I haven't had any server down or maintenace warnings since Sunday evening.

I'm back, i turned on my 530 and it automatically uploaded my missing rides, so i'm 100% back.

Now I can go back to more important things like worrying about Covid, the economy and the poor start to a 60 game season my Mets are having.

I know, i'm just being a "dick" and kind of laughing at those that feel not having access to their Garmin is serious.

Nothing personal.

I'm seeing the posts that Garmin is coming back, and I'm seeing some life, but not much.

Lisa uses iOS and she's getting more data on her Garmin Connect app; but my Android Garmin Connect app is still showing what it's has since Thursday. My Edge 1030 will not sync via the phone app, but will work with the desktop app and USB. Also, I can't access the Garmin Connect web page.

I find it interesting that my Forerunner 645 is sending HR & step count data; but not sleep data.

Another interesting thing is that we found our Garmin Index was still syncing data to MyFitnessPal over the weekend, but can't see it on Garmin Connect.

My phone this morning (Jul 28):

* Yes, we have a lot of Garmin in our house and we've been watching this attack closely. Also, this outage has not stopped me from doing what I would do with Garmin products - including a 90-mile adventure ride on Friday that required loading a route on my 1030 created on Strava ... it's not that difficult.

This AM, My Edge said "RIDE SYNCED" on device to my house wifi...but didn't show up on Connect. I had to manually wireless-ly sync it to my phone to get it to take.

I think Garmin was reading my post ... within 2 hours, my Android app updated with all my data (from Forerunner, Edge, and Index) and a new message. The desktop site is still not loading, but I'm sure that'll be back shortly.

If you're worried about the economy, you should have a garden making enough food to last a year. Relying on the whims of the market to feed yourself is like trusting Google with your data.
