As an aside, I expect that the powers that be who are aware of the likely characteristics of Bike Forums' customer base (presumably Google, Facebook and other data miners) could provide some information about the racial make up of the BF members and BF readers/clickers/posters who might also be likely Rivendell customers.. Anybody willing to bet with their own money that over 1% would qualify for Rivendell's discount let alone also be interested in buying one with or without a discount??
Small bets only.

Looks like free-choice capitalism to me.

So after cycling across Wyoming and South Dakota I was wondering about the Native American whose land was taken away. Is the discount going to be offered to other groups?

I see no way that this would be objectionable to any American, unless you are in denial about the reality of our history as a nation or racist.
I'll guess the funds for that will come from increased state income taxes? Which means qualifying tax payers would be able to opt out due to race or lack of income.

I'm thinking the payout would be small, maybe $50 per month per recipient for . . . ever?

I've seen how much extra I've received on federal income tax cuts in the past. It's almost negligible . . . something like an additional inexpensive meal for two per pay period.

Dang, people itching for arguments by misinterpreting a simple observation into an attempt to prove or disprove something.

Been riding a lot of years. Lived all over the country, all over the world actually. Don't know if it is all the goings on but this year but I've noticed a very high increase in the number of black people out on the trails. At least in my area. Many are on enviously nice bikes, much nicer than anything I've owned.

So I've wondered what is up with that, maybe something covid related? Weather was nice, maybe that had something to do with it. Don't think my observation is a personal awareness issue because I've always been pretty aware, especially of anything on bicycles.

But on the issue, I do know there are a lot of well off black people living in the burbs of DC. I work with some of them.

I wonder if that is the reason some people don't buy expensive bikes, economics? Or does race define everything?

Which reminds me, need to donate my bike to Orphan Grain Train. It is a ministry that ships bikes to Africa to be used as transportation. I wonder if the ministry is as aware of the race issue as the people on this thread?

We should all just go back to our continent of origin and be done with it.

Can one of the 3 star BF mods through the data mining information available to BF or its owners, confirm or deny the proposition that over 1% of BF Members would qualify for Rivendell's current race based discount?

Is it a step toward Socialism though? Its just a small business choosing to discount their products for a specific group.
That isnt at all in any way close to anything Socialist.
For the record- homeless shelters, youth mentorship programs, and foodbanks also are not Socialist. I just want to clear that up before it gets asked next.

That word, Socialist, has to be one of the 10 most overused and misused words of 2020.

I'd rather donate my bet to a cause run by people of color, but in the interest of the thread . . . I'm in.

That's cruel. The nations of continental Africa have quite enough problems to deal with without adding 7 billion or so unruly migrants to their collective population.

Of course it's hyperbole.
But I really do think that the Critical Theorists are utterly wrong, using fallacious reasoning to derive incoherent conclusions from faulty premises. When you explicitly and proudly mix Foucault and Derrida into a base of Marx and Freud, you're going to produce nonsense that pretends to be wisdom. Critical Theorists are Humanities academics who present themselves as Social Scientists, but where they really belong is in the Ag department.

The phrase "well spoken" implies some sort of standard or cultural norm.

Suggesting "well spoken" is anything individuals say it is probably wouldn't generally be considered "well spoken".

Correct: nonsense on stilts. Sadly, that nonsense is now pervasive in public discourse, and continues to shape the 'ideas' (snort) therein.

One of so-called 'critical theory's' progenitors unwittingly described it best in a book title:
