It is. The roads have a perfect surface for road cycling, but because of high traffic speed and/or density, what should be an ideal road to ride a bike on is NOT at all a good road to ride a bike on. The expectation is the opposite of what is meant or true. Does not meet your standards for irony?

If the county/state designates a road as bicycle-friendly, and then makes it chipseal/gravel that no cyclist wants to ride on, that would be irony.

Are you being obtuse? I was pointing out that a nice smooth road like those pictured have pavement that is perfect for a road bike. The IRONY is that these roads (at least in my parts) are TERRIBLE for a road bike because of traffic speed and/or volume. The expectation is a smooth road is good for riding and it's not.

I find it Ironic that I am given a bike lane which is just a shoulder with a bike painted on it ever 100 feet and it’s filled with debris where I don’t want to ride.

Still raining. Somewhere around six inches since Friday.
Signs of Fall include the solidifying of the coconut oil. I can live with that for decent riding temps.
The little woman and I just finished installing the new water shut-off valve in the prolly 30 year old washer. It's a gem, Jerry, a gem! Pre- digital. The valve itself has been discontinued and ,as such, was somewhat difficult to find. Maybe it'll last another thirty years.
My new wheel set requires spoke lengths of 299 for the front, and 298.4/296.5 for the rear. I've got a nice stash of 300, and a fair stash of 299 and 296/297. I plan to use the 300 for the front, and hopefully it will work out.
I may yet get started on that today.

Funny you say that, because I imagined her telling the cops “I didn’t see him” if she had hit me and them not even giving her a ticket.

There’s a popular cycling road like that in Philly that leads to a popular bike trail. A local guy used to occasionally clear it with a push broom and bag large debris and trash. I haven’t been on it in a while. He may still clear it.

I would ride that every day and twice on Sundays. But I wouldn't pump the tires up to 120 psi.

16 miles of most of my rides are like this (8 miles each way), though part of it has houses. 2 stop signs in 8 miles, and Southbound, no cross streets.
Cars are usually going between 50 and 70, though. But there's not THAT much traffic since it runs parallel to a freeway. Plus, for 6 miles of it, nobody lives there.
EDIT: This was in the Spring. Now it's all brown and highly flammable.
