FS: Red 56cm Early 80's Bertin C37 - All Original

I bought this 56cm 1982-83 Bertin C37 on eBay back in 2007. This was Bertin's top of the line model at that time. It's all original with almost no miles on it. (See the photo of the large chainring)

With all of the posts about Bertin's lately, it's time to let this one go to someone who can enjoy cleaning it up and riding it.

I'm selling it as is... never got around to doing anything with it. I have to many other projects in the works.

$550 plus shipping or $500 local SF Bay pick up or delivery. PayPal, cashiers check or money order unless I know you.

It shows signs of minor shop wear, scratches, chips and light corrosion as to be expected on a 37-38 year old bike. Needs new sewup tires. Some of the decals are torn up but they can be replaced. Testors Medium Red paint is an exact color match.

Specifications:
Reynolds 531 throughout. I think that frame is made with lighter .9mm x 6mm main tubes because it takes a 26.6mm seatpost. Standard 1mm x.7mm 531 main tubes used on most production frames used a 26.4mm seat post.
Bocama Lugs
Milremo Dropouts - made by the same company that made Campy's

Seat Tube 56cm C-T-T
Top Tube 56cm C-T-C
72 1/2° - 73°Angles
Wheelbase 100cm
Rear Dropouts 126mm
2 Water Bottle Cage Mounts
Weight - Around 21± Lbs. ?

Spidel Marked Components:
Stronglight A9 Headset
Stronglight 106 Crankset with 52-42T chainrings - 144mm BCD Same as Campy
Stronglight 651 Sealed Bearing BB with alloy cups
Maillard 700 Small Flange Hubs with the later labyrinth style metal seals
Maillard 700 Course 6 Speed Freewheel 13-21T ?
Mafac LS2 Side Pull Brakes

Simplex Super LJ Derailleurs, SLJ 5500 CP/SP Rear - 26-28T Capacity, Simplex Retrofriction Levers

Mavic Monthlery Pro Tubular Rims - Needs New Tires

Milremo Brand Components:
Bars and Stem
Fluted Seatpost with 2 Bolt Clamp
Selle San Marco Concor Saddle - Suede Cover has some scratches.

BTW, I'm not showing any pedals. These take metric thread pedals. I may be able to dig out a set of usable Maillard 700 pedals that I'll throw in.

When I pull the seat, I'm going to hone the seat tube for easy seatpost insertion and adjustment.

These are superb riding and handling bikes. I have a 1980 Bertin C37bis so I never got around to this one.

Any questions, please PM me. More photos on request.

Chas,
That is one heck of a deal...if it were just a tad smaller, I would be sending you a P.M.

Thanks guys, it's basically NOS. The only sign that a chain was ever on the large ring came from when I was spinning the cranks on a bike stand.

I'm selling it cheap because:
A. I don't have the time or energy to get it ready for market and...
B. paying it forward.... It's just sitting in my basement and someone should enjoy it.

If I don't find a buyer, I'll clean it up and ask a LOT more for it.

All that needs be done mechanically is repack the hubs and maybe the headset, the BB has sealed bearings, clean and lube the chain and freewheel.

Cosmetically, touch up the paint in a few places and rub it out, replace any decals as needed and polish out the rims, spokes and any minor corrosion on the other metal parts. Install new cable housing, brakes blocks, tires, tape the bars and voilà, like new!

Funny thing, over the years of selling stuff, if nobody scoops up a good deal, raise the price and it sells fast???

Bump! It's confusing to read one thread about the crap, used, overpriced bikes out in the Covid marketplace and then switch gears and be offered this absolute gem of a bike for little more than the cost of two big box BSO's.

Charles-

Absolutely top of the line French kit with a matching frameset - 2 cms larger and it would be mine. These bikes are fantastic and if it fits you, buy it. Good luck with the sale Charles.

I saw this right after it was posted and was like, "what a great deal and my size too"! But I've totally shot my bike budget for the year thanks to you already.

Sweet deal for someone and having bought from you I know how easy and honest you are to deal with.

This bike reminds me a lot of my 1982 Peugeot PXN 10 but with a nicer finish and better derailleurs than came stock on the PXN 10. Otherwise the parts group are the same. The PXN 10 is a bit heavier at 22.5 lbs but that weight includes clincher rims and pedals and the Reynolds 531 may be a bit heavier gauge.

The parts on this bike are excellent and the workmanship on the frame is also very good. This is probably the nicest set of French components you could get and fully as good as anything Campy had if not better.
