Duell Vienna - picture shoot
Well, this is the 3rd attempt to get good shots of this one. Grabbed these this morning while pinging of 4 cups of coffee. Made it a little hard to hold steady as I manually focused. But anyway, here's a bunch of pics from the finally built up Duell. 18 lbs, 2 ozs as in the pics. I've gotten a couple of rides in on it and all I can say is it's really pretty perfect for the route i ride. The front feels a little flexy or soft sometimes yet that really means it tracks well and soaks up the rough roads beautifully. I can see doing a fast 100 miles on this one easily. Not like the Serotta Nova Special I've been sorting out too. The Serotta is harsh riding on the rough roads.
Anyway, probably the only thing left to do on this is to swap in the black with yellow button Elite bottle cages coming in and then one day fix the position of the shifters on the bars and get the tilt of the bars proper. A little miscommunication between me and the guy that built this one. No decals on this other than the Columbus ones. All other details are beautiful paint work by the brother of the framemaker.

Well, the ol' 25ish year old bike gives a really nice ride. I forgot to hit my inhaler today and before I got two miles into the ride I was already wheezing and not getting full breaths. But it was warm and calm and the bike was moving out with no real effort. So I kept going. 15 miles in I was still running a better than 20 mph avg pace, best of the year despite not working that hard at it. Then around mile 16 a cold front came blasting in with headwinds gusting over 25 mph. Cut the route short since I already couldn't breath and headed home. Still got the 23+ miles done at a respectable 18.9 mph avg on this and I contribute all of that to the bike. Those last miles I spent a lot of time between 13 and 16 mph as the winds kicked my butt. Surprised to see the overall pace was still so good.

Finally got a "normal' ride in on this. My usual afterwork route today which right now is right under 27 miles. Calm most of the way with headwinds starting with about 9 miles left in the ride and then really in my face the last mile and a half. Pulled of a 19.2 mph avg, one of the fastest of this year for me. Was actually a bit faster than that but got held up more than usual along the way by traffic and then by some horses I passed twice. Slowed down and called out each time so as not to spook them.
Bike felt great though, plenty comfortable yet fast. Much like my italian Lemond Maillot Jaune this one carries fast speed well late in the ride when I'm tired and loosing concentration on keep the pace. Very reactive to getting back up to speed when I lose focus and slow.
