Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

No bragging. I was talking to my sister and asked how his job is going. She said he is working hard to pay off his law school loans. I asked if he is making a good salary, I told her what I make and she said he is making a bit more than that.

BTW my salary is not that high compared to what people think I make. I do ok but I have plenty of friends who work in finance or IT and make a lot more than me.

If you were to be a specialist what would be your choice?

It's a five minute walk from my house. That's where I met him. The place is really nice. And it's fun because a lot of the cats come to you looking for attention. You'll be sitting there petting one of them and all of a sudden you'll get a head rub from behind from another one.

For money? Radiology, radiation oncology, dermatology, anesthesia, or ophthalmology. Those guys make 2-3 times what I make.

But I really like general adult medicine, so I am sticking with it.

Yep. They are all "free range." The place is pretty big, and they can even go into the storefront windows and climb up on the three tiered Eiffel Tower. The volunteer who was there yesterday (he's the guy seen in the video) said they only had one who habitually tried to escape. They have all been rescued off the street, and they only keep the ones that are not feral. (The truly feral cats they fix and release.) The Café represents much better living conditions so they stay put.

Oh man, those dermatologists make out like bandits. Anesthesiologists too, but I bet their insurance rates are high.

Yup but even so, they do well. Even the nurse anesthetists make more than I do!

How's the job going? How are you liking Dallas overall?
Doing well at the new place. They're all over the map with what they're doing, confusion, direction, etc. I'm gonna grab a PMP in December and then hit the market again at the one year mark here. Added cert and experience to roll over into more opportunity. Gotta go bigger next job opp. About to settle into a place for a year long lease for much less $$ than I'm paying now, and puts me in half way between Dallas and Plano should I get employment at either location later on.

Dallas is good to go - again same old complaints - more nature, less heat? I mean, I'm nitpicking here - it's exponentially better than the north east.

Dating's in and out, no stunners on the radar right now but I'm okay still trying to get settled in, gonna take a few years to get sorted out fully.. you know like 3 bicycles 0 couches right now might not be a huge selling point of stability gonna fix that after the move to the place tho'.

It is stupid Ethiopia closed to adoptions. We would have two boys if the country swallowed a little pride. I just completed the 2017 post placement report, which we agreed to do until age 18. I'm skeptical it even makes it to the Ethiopian agency.
That's a shame, especially as parents with a proven track record, or jumped through hoops as you had to.

Obviously, I feel a dog is worthy of your attention, but I'm pretty biased there.

Speaking of strangulation:

I live in one of the safest cities in California (not LA, my little suburb of LA).

Yesterday on the bike path in broad daylight, a homeless guy tried to strangle a 70 year old woman out for a run.

A friend I rode with today happened to pass the woman and then went to a leg of the bike path on the opposite side of the river to do some intervals. She could see the police on the bike path across the river and wondered what was up.

Turns out, two other friends were riding their bikes and came upon the homeless guy standing over the unconscious woman. They asked what was going on and the homeless guy said her tried to murder the woman.

One guy, a retired cop, detained the homeless guy. The other called 911.

The woman is in the hospital in fair condition. The homeless guy arrested and charged with attempted murder, bail set at 8 million dollars.

Today I rode home from coffee solo on the exact same stretch of bike path.

AG got her PMP and it wound up doing nothing for her - I know some places do care, but it's hit-or-miss and she wound up at a place that would have taken her without that effort and expense. Just something to keep in mind while looking at opportunities.

Dating... everyone here can tell you how long and painful my process was. Finding the right girl is worth it, but the process can be frustrating. Good luck!

I wanted to carry a collapsible police baton but apparently it's a felony to have one outside of the home here in TX...

Very nice. I was asking just for scale; my poor old boy was 19lbs at his heaviest and long too, even though he should have been a couple pounds lighter. Just huge, and still athletic and fast when he was young.

I still miss the poor old boy.

When AG and I were in Boulder for the 70.3 we went up to the Blue Owl in Nederland, and sadly poor old Samwise was no longer with us, and they hadn't found a suitable new cat.

Hey, I figure it's another tick in the box that may turn up spades for me so I'll take the gamble - would've spent the money on something bike related anyway if I didn't go for it.

I'm trying to enjoy the ride with it and not implicate any expectations. So far so good, @BillyD I'll get a couch and circle back around

I would get into CX too but what is the point of sucking in another sport/fitness activity?
