The Richmond ferry opens today. I'm guessing after the bridge opens that it will become a popular loop. They are finishing the path past Chevron from pt Richmond and just need to put up a separation barrier on the west bound span. I'm wondering if there will be restrictions when the wind picks up?

They had a rig at the off ramp loaded with metal plates. There was a crew doing cement transition work at the pt Richmond side of the trail. I didn't see any trail entrance that would put you onto the bridge.

Wow - the connection to Pt. Molate is open? Officially, or did you have to climb over construction fences? (I know the trail on the bridge itself is now delayed until June, but this part of the project is great as well.)

Let's say it's not closed. They still need to clean up and finish asphalt.

There are sections that require a share the road. You would be best to check it yourself when officially open.

I and about 1,200 of my new friends rode it yesterday. AMAZING turnout, especially considering the cold, extremely foggy weather.

It was fun seeing all the different types of cyclists, including Gary Fisher in turn-of-the-century attire and a bike to match, a unicyclist and a kid riding his bike backwards.

At pt Molate entrance.

The East Brothers islands, looking towards the north San pablo bay

From the Marin side.

I'm curious, are there bike paths away from traffic on the Marin side? Could one bike to the Larkspur Countrymart relatively safely?

You will be alongside of Sir Francis Drake Blvd. No mups until you get past the prison. Fairly wide shoulder but some people might not feel comfortable on it.

So you have to ride down the hill around the prison? I guess I'd be okay doing it but it would be nice if there was a separated lane. There's certainly adequate space for one. It would make it much easier for someone to bike over and catch the Smart train up north.

Still finishing the Larkspur station, but you can ride up to the transit station in central San Rafael.

Have not seen a lot of souls trying to brave this section of 580 this winter, hopefully spring can come sooner.

Sadly I missed opening day and wanted to ride the bridge. I made the trip across the bridge last weekend and I have to say it was an enjoyable ride. The bike lane itself is well protected even though traffic is whizzing close by. The climbs were a very mild at 3% - 4%. The biggest thing is how many more routes is make available for someone like me in the far east bay.
