Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My redundant answers to all the obvious questions here, are just that. Life is way too short to not ride what you choose.

Alas, I have given up on level top tubes and only my hardass bike has a level stem.

"Choose" packs a lot of philosophy into one syllable...and then there's the boat.

Indeed. I try to choose stuff I like. It isn't always the very best, or even this years newest and greatest. I do choose to shop around, and build otay stuff for a surprising price. That leaves room for more choices! One of my choices? No boats. I was on a pit crew for a while, and watched plenty of money being flushed down the asphalt toilet.

New stem and combo mount -

Now that I have the stem, I'll have to trim the periscope some time soon.

My legs are too short for a level top tube... unless I go with a tiny frame, a boatload of spacers and a 180mm stem.

Am I to understand that threadless headset bearings contain no balls?

Almost all of mine have balls. I only have one with roller bearings.

Many of the ones with balls have the balls inside a cartidge, but I do have a couple of cup n cone threadless headsets.

Well, all headset bearings contain balls (except for needle bearing headsets, obviously), it's just that some are contained within a cartridge and some aren't.

I've had a threadless headset with caged ball bearings before.

You could try to look for used equipment from dental offices.
