Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

most important upgrade for your fixed gear

finally broke down and got the one thing i needed to make my fixed gear complete.

flask cage and flask! (ok, that's two things, but i think of them as one).

drinking and biking is now so much easier.

you can't see the other side of the bike, with the really vulgar stickers. and yes, i am indeed cool, and not because of my bicycle.

and why do i need bar tape or brakes? my bike rides quite fine without them.

lighten up dude, its a bicycle.

I mean, yea bar tape is pretty essential, but I feel like riding brakeless is so blown out of proportion on here.

I like the flask/holder. The rest of that bike is just way too goofy for me though.

OHAI I just noticed, is that a Bontrager mountain saddle? Weird coincidence if so; I put one of those on my first build because I had nothing else lying around.

checked with a local cop, the most they can do to me here is give me a $15 fine, *if* they decide to pull me over. me riding my bike around at night drunk is the least of their problems.

ok, seriously, i am asking a genuine question because i genuinely do not know the answer. why is bar tape so important? is it comfort? i'm quite comfortable without the tape. is it a safety issue, hand slippage or something like that? i've ridden in the rain, snow, all sorts of weather, i've yet to have my hands slip off the bars. i cannot think of another reason to need bar tape, other than looks. can someone please, without sarcasm or jokes, explain why bar tape is such a big deal?

Bar plugs are actually more important than bar tape. It keeps your bars from becoming a big ol' stake through your chest should you have the misfortune of being in a bad accident.

i don't like the idea of getting squished by a car or breaking my face or skeleton while drunk and biking.

the idea of drinking and biking, in a world full of soft objects and no cars, would be awesome. that's not the world i live in. i know what it's like to bike wasted and i know what it's like to bike buzzed and neither is as good of a time as biking healthy.

and yeah, a cop would have a field day if he noticed it was a flask. even if it's water. keep stuff out of sight and don't consent to searches.

Colorado is one of the few states that considers a vehicle both motorized and human powered. It is possible to receive a DUI on a bicycle in the state of Colorado. I know of more than one person that has one.

Also, if the cops were nice enough to not give you a DUI on the bicycle, they are still inclined to give you a Public Intoxication charge.

So in the end, Dont be a ****ing ****** bag and ride around drunk. That makes you no better than someone who chooses to drive their car after drinking.
