Chefdurfee...I'm definitely retro and occasionally a grouch and am also quite familiar with the Retrogrouch page but not sure I ever appeared in those pages (though I take as a compliment). Sounds like you are accessing areas east of Sonoma Creek...I've ridden lots of those levees before dating back to 70s (I was raised in Sonoma Valley). My recent ride was on west side of Sonoma Creek, accessing levees from off Hwy 37 (there are a few places to park). I've ridden these levees for years too....those further to west towards Petaluma River as well. Sometimes you come to a dead end...or a farmer who wonders where you came from but that's part of the adventure. You can go north from 37 too in some areas, into southern end of Sonoma Valley as well as towards Novato. Best part....no hills but absolutely awful mud when wet.

Yes Sonoma Valley though back when I was much younger, you could put a canoe in at Hudeman and paddle over and down (east and south) to the Napa River...had to watch those tides! I've ridden levees and farm roads to north, and into Wingo...though that was many years ago too.

I picked up this Carmel mixte today for my wife. Nothing fancy, but it will serve her well. T-mar decoded the serial as an '83.

From my vague recollection, the original bosses on the '93 were set a bit inboard from the stays/blades, as compared to modern setups.
Did you take any steps to match the '93 oem setup?

the guy before me added the canti blocks/posts, done by a local frame builder in portland oregon, no idea who or what they used. here is the final build w/changed out triple to VO 46-30 crank, flite ti saddle, paul brake calipers.

someone asked me why the 46-30 double vo crank instead of the triple crank ---------- simplicity. I don't need to go 35-40 on this bike, which the large chainring will if you REALLY push it(which would be unstable on this bike) and for climbing the rear is 32 while the small chainring on the crank matches the small on the former sugino crank, at 30t. clean, easy, lighter. no brainer. this is a fun bike, not a serious workout/all day ride bike.

That looks fantastic. Terrific all the way around with the polished bits, but I'm most impressed with the brown flite. Did you have it stockpiled? Or re-covered from a different color?

I got lucky with the saddle on ebay last august, it went on my breadwinner at first, I then wanted something that worked better with the xo so I switched them out. its orig brownish, somewhat rare now, goes with the bike well. it had a B-17 on it when I bought it, should've paid the extra on that one iit was comfortable ---------- but I didn't want to pay more!
this rebuild was more extensive than I thought, and the paul brakes added a bunch. they are killer brakes, though, perfect match. and the front rack needed little bending to fit well, just had to by the paul brake longer mounting bolts. the max tire on the non canti version was 42mm but with only a mm to spare, so I went to these 38mm panaracers. loved the 42's but... the crank I'd planned orig to keep the sugino triple on, but I figured I'd go the whole route, why go halfway? I have a set of 26x35mm tires if I want to put on fenders, but probably won't.

If you post the serial in the Asian serial number thread T-Mar will identify it most likely. The serial number thread is a sticky at the top of the C&V subforum.

Here is the Carmel I posted above after a partial overhaul a few weeks ago. My wife wanted it ready to ride so I cleaned and lubed all the bearings and cables, replaced the tires, tubes and rim tape and replaced the chain. It did not have the correct RD but I found the correct Suntour 7 GT on eBay and replaced it as well.
I will probably go back through it again this winter and replace the cables, touch-up the paint and address a couple of other items I skipped to get it ready for her to ride.
