I am a novice rider in my 50's.... didn't ride all of last year and now that the snow has left my region I want to get out and ride. However, I don't have any good shorts that would be suitable for a ride.

Looking for any suggestions from Amazon.... I don't like tight fitting shorts and I want something that fits securely at the waist. The pull strings I don't care for and anything with lots of pockets on the front leg.

I'd recommend liner shorts with a pad. They can be worn under any short you want and you still get a little padding for the nether regions.

Has to be from Amazon? Likely on decent shorts along with other cycling things you are going to be spending enough money to get free shipping from where ever you buy them if that is your reason for using Amazon. I find better deals on bike stuff when I don't use Amazon or eBay.

I like Pearl Izumi shorts and bibbs in the middle tier price range of their stuff. But I'm a road bike guy. Don't know how that translates to your moniker which suggests you might be an off road type.

Some don't like Pearl Izumi and tend to favor other brands. Whatever you get, don't get it so skin tight that it cuts off your blood circulation or smashes any male parts you might have. For road biking you do want your shorts and other things to be form fitting and move with you. On the trail I've heard they like a looser outerwear for encounters with brambles and thorns.

I have a paved path where I live so its not true mountain biking. I am a novice in the cycling world so don't know all of the jargon.

I am 6'1 210lbs so I want something that fits my build but not paper thin, etc.

Anyways was just looking for some suggestions as I feel when I search on Amazon the reviews are hit an miss.

I agree with the suggestion to get a liner and then wear whatever shorts you want. I like the Zoic Essential liner, and I wear mine with Outdoor Research Equinox or Eddie Bauer Guide shorts, both of which are lightweight, quick-drying, and have zippered pockets for phone. All are available on Amazon. You don't need to get a liner, but the chamois pad adds significant comfort on long rides. Have a good ride!

I rode a bike for for about 46 years before buying my first piece of cycling related clothing. If you want to ride, you don't have to ride in bike specific clothing. Though the more often and longer at a time you ride, the more cycling specific clothes will benefit you.

It will help to explain what type cycling you wish to do, whether you use the right jargon or not. Also what type bike you have.

If you are riding a mtn bike, it'd probably make more sense to dress for the genre. Real mountain bike types might think you strange if they see you in road bike gear.

However us road bike types will think you strange for riding a mountain bike on a paved surface, regardless of your clothes.

And the bickering can go on and on........ <grin>

Its a Norco Storm 27.5 with Non-Mountain bike tires on it.... When I ride on paved roads and paved trails.

Everyone says you need padded shorts or padded liners. I haven't found that to be true. Once I have achieved 4-5 rides per week of 36-42 miles each, my buttocks are in riding condition, and I wear compression boxers and fishing or hiking shorts over them. Don't wear cotton, get something that dries quickly. Use zippered or velcro close pockets for valuables.

I like my cargo cycling shorts over a liner with chamois pad.
I prefer the legs on the liner to be longer(almost to the knee caps) then the shorts....

Do you have an REI or similar outdoor store nearby? Some basic MTB shorts with a liner sounds like what you want.

If you do get back into riding more frequently, I will say that quality cycling clothing that fits well and is comfortable will go a very long way to your ultimate enjoyment. And, quality cycling gear isn't always the cheapest Amazon option. I'd look at Pearl Izumi and Voler (a great local manufacturer in my home town) for basic gear.

Look at 11 pine. I wore a pair of their shorts, with a unique feature that lets them conform to your anatomy or be "loose", for many years, and have a couple more that are used now.

Look up "The Black Bibs". get some "liner" shorts for comfort, then put whatever over-shorts you want over them. I have a few pairs of synthetic fabric "board shorts" with pockets from thrift stores that due the job.
