Excuse the dirty bike. I'm old and fat and stick mostly to the San Luis Rey River Trail. This is the only serious hill. Short, but maxes out at over 10%. I often take a picture at the highest I am able to climb it. 71 gear inches. This was a couple of days ago and my highest yet. Don't know what year the bike is, only that it is a Haro era Taiwanese Masi.

You’re getting out there. Probably better than 90% of other Americans and better than the sedentary you.

Is that Oside? My grandfather had a condo that was right above the jetty.

One of these days. Even hard on a road bike. The real challenge is coming up to speed at the bottom where there is a blind corner as the trail passes under a railroad track. I can see bikes approaching from the other direction and abort if I see anyone turning down toward me. At the speed I have to be at I have to cut a straighter line up that curve. Oncoming traffic means I have to slow down.

Trail dumps you onto Pacific St. The buildings in the background including the faux lighthouse is the O'side harbor restaurant row. High rise was once the only highrise in the area. Gentrification has Pacific St going the other way starting to look like Newport Beach.

N County native here (Vista). Although I live in Clairemont/Kearey mesa now. Was on that path last weekend omw up to Vista. Have you ever been on the path when the skydivers are landing in an adjacent field before the skatepark? If you see lots of people stopped and looking straight up, you know why.

I'm on that path at least twice a week. Those skydivers are not an easy subject for a recent hobby, working around the limits of cell cameras for videography. Part of the problem is that security fencing keeps me from the best viewpoints. I bus to the path from Tri City because, you know, hills and a fixie.

Cinelli Mystic Custom

This bike was painted custom for the artist Jeremy Fish and given to him (w/ signed dedication on the seat stay) by Antonio Columbo, (head of Cinelli and Columbus tubing) after Jeremy did a collaboration with Cinelli.

The frame is homemade from Reynolds 531, but yes, with Zeus 2000 track ends.

1973 Schwinn Varsity Singlespeed Conversion

Here's my '73 Varsity. It's always been a single speed in the time I've owned it (was pretty much a bare frame chained to a fence when I first saw it). I had regrettably let it rust up a bit from improper storage and it needed another full rebuild.

Stripped to bare, repainted rustoleum yellow (it was originally yellow too). Some of the originally chromed parts were way too far gone to do anything but paint. All in all, for what it went through, it looks great and rides amazingly well. This rebuild was done about a year ago.

Freewheel, 27”.

The wheels are super cheap Facebook marketplace sourced replacements, the ones I had on it before were pretty much chunks of rust. And to the Schwinn collector types who may be aghast at that, they weren’t the originals anyways.

I would prefer if the front wasn’t a steelie but it is doing the job just fine, so it’s staying until I have reason to swap beyond just the vague feeling of it could be better.

Is it wrong to point out that BMXs are single speeds? I quite like this 24" Haro Downtown cruiser. I ride it more like a small beach cruiser than a BMX.

Trek 730 MultiTrack

One of my latest projects. A Trek 730 MultiTrack .
Dug the frame out of the garage attic yesterday and threw some parts on it .
I’m not crazy about using a tensioner but I couldn’t find the right chain fix that would work with the gearing I wanted to use .
Should I take a couple more links out of the chain ?
Working on my Schwinn Crisscross and CrossCut converting them also .
I go through this about every couple years , where I convert almost every bike I own to SS .
Just love the simplicity.

This one belongs here - '92 Trek 820 that had I not taken it would have gone to the scrap yard. As pictured here it's a Dingle Speed with 36x16 and 34x18 options; since reduced to a simple 36x16 due to a desire to swap out cranks. It's actually not a bad little errands bike, and I think I will take it to the beach next month. As shown, I have a whopping $21 in it, for a used chainring and two BMX cogs. Everything else was either on the frame or in my parts bins.


Formy purposes a 21 or 22-in would be better, but this one was FREE

The position is pretty close to my usual road bike setup

I'm rediscovering SR Super-Misspelled Randonneur bars and deciding I like them.

BMX cogs were a whopping $6.95 apiece

This shouldn't work, and it does

A two-tooth difference in chainrings

working on the clear coat now. Sprayed out doors and felt I had to get close, so quite a bit of runs to smooth out. dang it.

need a wheelset. Thinking of going with a State Bicycle set. The all road version in black.
be curious to know opinions.
