Today's forecast - which, looking out on the back yard, seems spot on:

Lots of sunshine. High around 60F. Winds W at 15 to 25 mph. Winds could occasionally gust over 40 mph.

I'm thinking this might be a day to ride in the garage.

It's only this hot in April. Come May the temperature drops into the mid 90s and the humidity rises into the mid 60s.
And then in June comes the rain. And hurricane season.

Got a cash award for volunteering for many horrible tasks last year and they cut the personnel order today. Tidy little sum which could be spent in all sorts of interesting ways. Ran outside to give LSS the news. Her reaction: "That's great; it'll just about pay for daughter's prenup!" So it will. So it will.

In my one and only experience in Yucatan, it was just about 40C hot in May...and humid like a sauna. This was back when they let you climb up the big pyramid at Chichen Itza.

For many years, about 40% of our miles were on tandems. We've owned several since 1988 and have raced them as well as toured all over the US and in Spain, Portugal, Slovenia, Montenegro, Croatia, etc. Tandem rallies are great, too. We rarely ride tandem anymore due to my wife's vertebrae fractures and subsequent back pain. Anything near 35 miles sidelines her for a few days.

Now at Palenque, a large ruin down in the Chiapas rainforest, it feels sauna-esque to me. There they are surrounded by tall trees, and as such, no breeze. But on the upside, depending on your outlook, it's a great place to find magic mushrooms, just growing out in the pastures. There will always be a pack of utes hanging around there.

No, it’s that daughter will have significant assets on our death and—who knows?—before, and a pre-existing agreement will help her protect them in the event of divorce. She, being a fair-minded creature, also drew it up with a mind to protecting her partner. The money is all for the lawyer.

Breeze? I don't remember a breeze. I do remember a cold beer later that day looking over the central square in Valldolid, on our way back to Cancun. That was a damn fine beer.

One of the good things about Texas law is that inheritances are separate property that a spouse has no claim to if you keep it segregated. I'm sure when our daughter gets married, the discussion will come up as there is money on both sides of the table (more on his). Not really fun conversations, but probably necessary is some cases.

I'm not sure if it will be a good thing or not, but the future SIL's mom is a lawyer as well.

We were scheduled to meet on Angeles Crest @ Foothill and ride to Monrovia for pizza but when my friend got there he discovered the drizzle and called us to meet in Chatsworth instead and ride out to Simi. It was dry over there but cloudy and cool. Nice ride and 2 friends came along and I was happy to see them for the first time in a year.

Her partner is an Icelander and the process was a real culture shock for him, but he got over it and signed. He will inherit some assets, but there will be a major asymmetry unless his software business hits it big. We had a big asymmetry too, but no prenup. When we decided to start a family, I signed over a bunch of assets to even things out a bit and make LSS less nervous about what would happen to her if I walked out. Good decision.

Wife and I started out without anything. If her mom dies soon, we will inherit a nice amount, but nothing life changing. Otherwise, she will consume it paying for elder care. My parents don't have much. Either way, I don't care as I'm good. I've always told my parents that the perfect estate plan is to spend your last dollar on your last day. The timing is the hard part though.

If something happened to both of us today, the kids would be in a very good financial position. However, I don't plan to enable that type of thing!

As for the wife and I, since we live in a community property state, what's hers is hers, what's mine is hers, and what's ours is hers.

She has captained for others but our tandem is too big in the front for her.

I used my new Varia today on our ride and it worked very well.

A guy who I've known for several years told me last week that he was semi-blind in his left eye from childhood. He also uses a Varia. I just have to be really careful at intersections. Skewed intersections are the worst and take extra caution.

The dad had a lot of neat cars in his collection. If there was a problem he would just have them towed to the dealer where he had 13 or 14 mechanics in his service department. He also kept cars at the dealer but when they sold one of the buildings he got rid of some of them.
He would take certain cars off the new car inventory and store them for years. He had a 96 Impala SS, an SSR truck, and a few 'Vettes. It was cool to see 15 or 20 year old cars with 50 miles on them.
He also had old cars, including a black on black 58 Impala convertible which was better than showroom condition, a 47 Chevy convertible, and a 54 Corvette. Had some Fords, too. A Torino Super Cobra Jet, not sure what year but it was really nice.
One of his sons got involved and had a bunch of cars, too, but when the dad died several years ago his son sold off most of the collection. He took over the store after that and bought whatever cars he wanted and just resold them at a loss. Gave him something to do.
