Old Magna 1500 series
A neighbor put this bike on the side of the road for taking. From what I’ve read Magna is a cheap brand and I just grabbed this to play with and learn some tuning with. I know It probably isn’t “worth it”, but the bike was free. It says “made in Taiwan” on it. I’m guessing the bike is 20-30 years old based on where it came from
In my searches I haven’t been able to find any more information on this bike. Can anyone provide more details?

Magna bicycles had their debut for the 1984 model, with the brand (originally) owned by JAB Associates of Ashland, just outside Boston. Besides bicycles, JAB also marketed children's toys, children's furniture and baby products. The brand changed ownership at least once, currently being owned by Dynacraft. The bicycles were likely manufactured by various contracted companies, depending on whomever tendered the best price.
Based on the head badge style, unicrown fork, friction shifting and pink accents, I'd place it circa 1987-1993. It is typical of department store level bicycles of the era, with stamped dropouts, single piece crankset, claw mount rear derailleur, stem mounted shift levers, brake safety levers, nutted hubs and primarily steel components. Serial number?

Good bike to learn on, it's heavy and definitely on the low end of the spectrum but the basics are the same as most other bikes and it would make someone a good dependable bike when you're done. Doesn't look to need much outside of the usual suspects such as tires, maybe tubes and brake pads and good clean up and tune. Don't spend much on tires, salvage a set from something else if you can because if you decide to sell it when it's done unless you're lucky you probably wouldn't get the cost of tires and tubes back.

The serial number can be located just about anywhere on the frame. Some common areas missed by the referenced site are the rear dropouts, seat tube lug and top of the seat tube.
