Places to buy used bikes
I would appreciate it if anyone could post some links to reputable places to buy used bikes. I've been limited to searching facebook marketplace and craigs list.

You might consider Ebay. Chat it up amongst friends and acquaintances in the cycling community. Good reason to get involved in club rides as well.
For higher end pre-certified bikes you can visit https://www.theproscloset.com/

I am definitely trying to get involved with other cyclists. Unfortunately, I live in the boonies and I'm 50 miles from the nearest bike shop and group rides. I've bought a couple off craigslist but have also wasted a couple trips on "perfect condition" bikes that actually had broken components. I am pretty much a newby but have put hundreds and hundreds of miles on a used Trek Marlin 5 I got on Marketplace. Now I need a touring bike.

I would also share on the Touring sub-forum what type of bike you are looking for so you can narrow it down a bit. Those guys and gals are really knowledgeable.
I just purchased a 1999 Schwinn Peloton off Ebay and will report on it next week after a few rides and fine tuning. You can review the sellers' profile and customer feedback to see who is a professional running a business using the ebay platform and is selling quality used bikes.

Probably on-line is your best bet. It pays to know what you want though. It's hard to test ride these internet bikes...

I've gotten some nice bikes in the local dump. For years I rode bikes I put together from parts I found. Not so much to save money, but to keep my mechanical skills up. Yard sales are also a good place to find bikes

Bike forums is a pretty decent site to buy used bikes. At least you are dealing with a seller who knows something about bikes. I'd check out the for sales forums; plus you can always put up a WTB if you know what you want. I've had good luck on craigslist but you need to be patient.

Are you on Facebook? There are several groups on there. Some are worldwide and some are local. There is a pretty active group for bikes and parts for sale in my local area. And I live in a small town. So I would be willing to bet there is a similar group near you.
