Wondering if anyone has run a 34t with a Shimano 5701 road RD? I know it "says" 32t max but can I make it work??

I have not run that combination, but I have run 2 teeth over on multiple Shimano RD’s without any issues.

34t works fine on my GS Di2 RD and also on my GS 7000 RD. IIRC GS is medium length cage
designation.

Looking at the Shimano Spec's for the RD-5701 it come in two flavors/specs

SS = Max Cog=30T Max Capacity=34T

GS (when used on a Front Triple)= Max Cog=30T Max Capacity=40T
GS (when used on a Front Double)= Max Cog=32T Max Capacity=40T

So assuming you're running the GS version on a Front Double, the published Cog limit is 32T
Where are you currently regarding the 40T capacity?

Are you also looking to push Max Capacity over the limit also?

I installed a 5701 with a 34t large on the cassette and it works great!

Most likely fine

I am two teeth over spec. (36 vs. 34) on a 9 speed Sora RD, and it is fine. Shifts beautifully. I think I could go even more over spec. If I wanted, as the B screw is not close to limit. YMMV.
