Isn't preventing this, one of the design intentions of a spoke protector, aka dork disk?

I've put them back on my bikes in the past 10 years, mostly to protect the spokes if the chain drops there, rare but it does happen, and I helped a guy on the bike path with a fresh new road race bike that did that, and with the new style riveted cog carriers and not flat on the back side of the largest cog, the chain really jammed in there good, heckuva time getting it loose.

I use small clear plastic discs, just large enough to do the job, not some tacky large chromed steel one.

Hey, same thing just happened to me too, but with an Ultegra 8150 derailleur. Same part broken for no apparent reason after 600 miles.
I rode my bike yesterday, all fine. Today I was setting it up for the trainer and noticed the shifter was in a strange angle and found out it was broken.
I'll try to contact Shimano tomorrow.

I can't post a photo but it is broken in the same place exactly.

Let us know how Shimano responds. Not familiar with 6150 being Ultegra?

You can post your photo in the gallery and someone will link it here.

Sorry, mistyped, it's an 8150. 12 speed Ultegra Di2. I just posted 2 pics to the Gallery.
I'll contact Shimano next week.

I did have a non-plastic Shimano derailleur break just like yours. I was wearing a scarf for warmth during a fall ride. It slipped off my neck and wound itself around the derailleur on a down hill run. The power was enough to lock up my back wheel. Luckily the derailleur parts did not get into my spokes...

8150 makes more sense.

I can't figure out the gallery myself, hopefully someone can and post your picture on the thread.

UPDATE: Received a mail guide to send the derailleur to the local Shimano office and they will examine it and send a new unit to a local service center.

In my case I bought the groupset in USA but I live in Argentina. I had to channel my claim through a local service center but they were very helpful. Shimano sent the guide the next day.

Good to hear! Hopefully you are not out of commission for too long.
